raising water

Tom, the river is flooding over Hwy 530 at the Lincoln Bridge as I type this message. I just returned from town and shortly after Carol came home from town. I'm certain they will soon be closing the highway down. Carol and Jessica are suppose to sing in the Messiah at 2:30, so if they are going to get to town, they'd best get ready quickly. Looks like I'll be taking them to town in the truck and most likely will have to go via the Jordan Road to Granite Falls and back to Arlington. (If that is passable... ) Lots of flooding going on around Darrington, Oso, Granite Falls and Robe and that is only what is happening in "my neck of the woods".

Meredith just spoke to her mom. Her parents live in Granite Falls ON the bank of the Stilly. At the moment they have ~2.5 feet of water running through their house and it's still on the rise. Their home is designed for this, but they still must move cars etc to higher ground each time this occurs. Last time this happened they lost their 36' motor home, tools, furniture, a Ford Explorer, their propane tank...all under ~6' of water, mud, sand etc. You can't mess w/ Mother Nature.

The hovercraft was just dispatched from the Arlington Heights Fire Department to assist with rescues in Oso. Based on your post Mark, it looks like we won't be getting to Arlington.

Dave, they live down in Rainbow Springs off of Chappel Rd. They are trapped in their house, but safe for the time being. I can see a clean-up this week though.

We made a successful trip to town via a detour through Granite Falls and an additional 50 miles of road travel. We got Carol and Jessica to the Performing Arts Center in plenty of time for them to participate in the community performance of the Messiah. All of the seats in the PAC were occupied and I was so engrossed in the superb performance that I completely forgot about the flood waters. We went out to eat afterwards in the hopes that the flood waters would have receded, but they didn't so we drove home the "long way". The road is still closed at the Lincoln Bridge with water almost backed up to the Arlington Heights Road.
Not an easy night for Meredith's parents I'm sure and for the other folks with flooded homes. Hope that Roger (Sensei) is coming through all this well.

nope, no water here
they are working frantically making a makeshift dike along SR 532.
the tide is out and the river is way down out front. it may be a little higher at high tide but at the moment I am not to worried.

huge down pour on the way home tonight. I had to slow down to less then 30 on the highway just to see. all the channels of the snohomish delta where packed with floating wood debri this morning on the high tide. we did get a brake today with clear skies for a little while but I thing its going to get worse.

Well the water at M's mom & dad's house has receded. They ended up with >4'. Now the cleanup begins....again. They had a friend bring by his small back-ho to make removal of the silt/mud/sand easier. Her dad said it's like quicksand and deeper than ever before. I didn't get a chance to go out there as intended since I spent the day replacing my gas water heater. :x I'll go tomorrow and see the damage first hand.

It could be worse; 9 degrees this morning, windchill is -4, and winter is still one week away. I need a fast boat with an AP stuck on due south.
