Is this a DIY job? (257#).

Have stout tree limb, come along and cupped hydraulic car jack for under skeg. Motor (johnson 70) looks like it will slide on bottom two bolts (depending on how it's sealed on). I know one key will be to make sure the transom bolts are properly sealed again on both sides.

Tips/suggestions?

Has anyone had this done professionally and can give me some rough idea of what it might cost?

While obviously noone likes to give suggestions for an operation that involves some danger to property or person, it's an older motor (and I'm an older person) and this would seem a reasonable risk.

Thank you, Chris

A few tips,

The Johnson 70hp weighs about 250 lbs, so be sure your hoist is adequate.

The top bolts have to be removed. Have sealer to reseal the bolts, 4200 is ok.

Apply some lift to the motor using the lifting eye on top of the motor. Loosen the bottom nuts and remove the top bolts. It is ok to use an impact gun to remove the top bolts. (Do NOT use an impact to tighten the bolts.) Apply more lifting pressure and the motor will break free. (With a jump!!)

Clean off the top bolts, apply sealer, line up the bolt holes and insert the bolts. Apply sealer around the bottom bolts on the outside of the transom. Be sure to use the original washers. Tighten the top and bottom nuts.

Do not overtighten!! Overtightening will crush the transom. Tighten by hand, not with an impact gun.
