Racor Filter Bowl failing?

I did my yearly maintenance this week. When I changed the RACOR filter assembly I noticed that the plastic bowl was "crazed" (see photos in my album). It did not leak and still feels robust. I use E10 gas with STABIL and the filter is out of direct sunlight. It is three years old. I contacted RACOR engineering and received an immediate e-mail reply. They said this should NOT happen and the bowl should be replaced. They asked me to check the bottom of the bowl for markings (PUR and Z). These markings show it is a new model bowl. I sent them photos of the bowl and they agreed to send me a new bowl at no cost! Glad to see that they believe in maintaining their quality. I know many of us use these filters-keep an eye on the filter bowl.

I see you have a green o-ring. That's new also. Since the o-ring comes packaged with the filter, mind if I ask what filter model you bought?

Those bowls usually have to be cut off the filter because they stick together so tight that the plastic filter bottom breaks loose and turns with the bowl.

You might order an aluminum bowl. That will not craze.

Boris, I used a S3227 filter with the bowl. I grease the rubber rings with dielectric grease and never had a problem taking them apart. I use a vise to hold them when I take them apart. I keep a filter and bowl assembly that has been put together as an emergency spare (never used it yet). I rotate it out when I do the yearly maintenance.
I agree with you on the metal fuel bowl-that will be my next replacement bowl. I used the see thru to visually check for water but in 10 years have never seen any water in the bottom of the bowl. I will be comfortable using the metal bowl and draining to check for water. Thanks for the comments.

I put a little bit of oil on my gasket when I put my racors together. It helps a whole lot when it comes time to take them apart.
