rack to raise electronics above cabin roof

Wait just a minute. How does a month cost and who do I send my check to? Do you take Mastercard or Visa? Sally lost her Gold Mastercard about a month ago but apparently the lady that found it is charging less than she did :) so I haven't reported it yet. Sounds reasonable to me... :crook

Cheers- "Airplane" was a satire/comedy/spoof of several serious movies, such as "Airport" and "Airport '77", or something like that. It's a classic, made up of hundreds of one-liners. You can watch it severl times over and discover lines you missed while laughing so hard the first time. Joe.

Gary,
I know a lot of knowledgable guys go for tandem axles, but I can give you my experience. When I bought the Hunky Dory the factory, Mark Toland, said "stick with single axles", His reasoning was the frame and construction of a single was heavier than a tandem . At least the EZ loader was. I have pulled the Hunky Dory well over 60,000 miles. Three trips well down into Mexico. Several trips to Florida, which is 3000 miles from here in Montana. I am on my second set of tires is all. I carry two spares mounted on the trailer. One is on a free turning spindle on the front hitch bar. It can be used to run trailer across the sand by hand than winch it back up off the beach. I have found it is plenty adequate for a 22 ft. C-Dory. Much cheaper to replace two than four. Just another side of the coin to think about.

Stand by for good news in custom stainless work.
A stainless marine fabricator just Moved to Libby Mont. He builds stainless tools for welders as well as fabricates for boats. He came to this little town to get out of the rat race. He ships all his work out of state. He is building a platform on top of the Hunky Dory. The platform will have a low 6" rail around it and a pin seat for sight fishing built in. Cobia and red fish advantage, plus a good place to sit while picking your way around the coral formations in the Bahamas. This is as close to a tuna tower as I dare to go. He should be starting on it shortly. I will post pictures.
I think his prices will be good. I will be talking to him about this posting. He has access to measurements on my 22 ft. So he can build and ship.
I ask if aluminum would be better. He said no , because aluminum needs to be thicker than stainless for the same strength. Makes sense to me.

I anguished about a kayak carier, awning support, radar arch for quite a while. I have constructed my own on Jammin using 80 feet of 1" .065 polished stainless (about $280) and standard rail fittings (about $340 from Bosun's supply). I am pretty happy with it. I'm using Yakima "hull raisers" for the kayaks. Having awnings made and will use it to support a few solar panels.

I drilled no holes instead I used 2 piece bimini fittings to attach to the cabin roof rails and the stern rails. From uprights near transom forward to front of cabin roof. 16 feet long about 8 feet wide.

Pictures soon.

Dennis,

After talking to several stainless fabricators and thinking more carefully about what I want to do with the kayaks, I am now leaning more toward the application you are describing--creating some kind of removeable mounting system near the transom, with the kayaks going on top of that to a Yakima-like set-up on the cabin roof. I'd like to see any pictures you have when you are finished.

By the way, how was your experience in Baja? We are planning to go within the next year.

Gary
