Q about use of portapotty in Ontario

We have a C-Dory 22 with a portapotty and would like to travel Canadian canals like the Rideau. Something we read gave us the idea you could not take a portapotty (or anything else) into Ontario unless it could be pumped out.

Does anyone know what the rules are?

Rules are always changing so get the latest. When we traveled there a length of boat exemption existed. We were told by a gov't type in a marina that we were ok, and never checked further. She also said, "what are all those open boat fishing folks doing? Your porta is great" - so we have cruised thousands of miles in Ontario without anyone ever stopping us and always using the porta-potti- so we will be interested in what folks say is the current regulation.

I'll echo what El & Bill said. We are over there all the time and no one has ever questioned our porta-potty, though we've been checked and boarded by all sorts of enforcement personnel. Borealis is a C-Brat from Terrace Bay, Ontario, who has cruised the whole Canadian Lake Superior shore. He is also a Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation Officer. And I'll lay odds he does not have a permanently fixed holding tank. I think there are some regulations on the books that defy common sense and I think this is one of them.

For two summers in a row we cruised Ontario waters including the Rideau with a porta -potty with no problems.Not sure it's strictly legal but it doesn't seem to be an issue.Enjoy the Rideau.
