Put a Hot Tub in your CD 22 for Under $100

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your questions and comments; I have been overcome by events at work.
Thanks for the great mixture of zany, hilarious, and thoughtful responses. I woke the wife up laughing at some of these when I first read them.
To clarify a bit; we set out to make a hot tub and not necessarily a hottub holding 50+ gallons of water. For me, a hot shower is just as good. I plan to buy a compact 24 inch version of the collapsible tub to stand in and enjoy a hot shower. When finished, simply drain the water out to the mid bilge and pump it out just like the existing arrangement . We have a camperback with complete privacy panels making a pretty roomy shower space.

I will try to answer some questions:

Jim B. asked: How many gallons do you figure you'll need to get to a comfortable level in that portable tub? We figure 4 gallons is enough for a minimum soak since the cockpit slopes slightly, this will be a few inches deep. Ideal is about 8 to 10 gallons.
Did your calculations take into account the entire amount of water being heated to a comfortable temp? The test data was taken using 2 gallons but the heat exchanger recovered temperature quickly even when relatively cold 56 degree water was added. In practice, we start with 4 gallons of water preheated in our Sunshower, when possible; this would get up to temperature quickly.
Where will that water be coming from? I have a washdown pump which can draw water from either the 20 gallon fresh water tank OR externally from the fresh water. We generally use fresh water.
Got something figured out to add jets? Yep, I have an old hula hoop in the garage which I can drill holes every 15 degrees or so on the inside and plumb into it. < I know what you are thinking – Byrdman……….>

I am speechless. If it does't work out as a tub, it will make a really big livewell Or something to cook ducks in
I fell out of my chair laughing at this one….. I have ducks to spare on the Tennessee R. ; they had better keep a sharp eye out thanks to you …..

Byrdman said: ..... just think what any local AL State Trooper is going to ask you if you get pulled over and ask you to explain what that rig is.... I hope you really do not mind taking a bath in front of the Trooper....or you will get to ride in the back seat. Now that you mention it, the real problem is the local Marine policeman who works out of Goosepond ; I was warned by the marina staff not to let him see my sundowner spirits as he is a T totaler and goes whacko……those copper coils could push him over the edge……
Have you ordered a shirt with no sleeve holes yet my friend? Will my old straight jacket do?

I like you coming up with these things.....suddenly, my rig looks normal. This is what Byrdman means by normal:

Sea Wolf asked: How many gallons does the tub hold? The tub can hold over 50 gallons filled to 2 inches below the top, but we do not fill it up.
Can a 6 foot person sit in the tub comfortably with knees under water? I will need to test; not sure. How deep is the tub water when filled? Tub is 14 inches tall
You're operating in fresh water, no? Fresh water only. We fill the tub from the fresh water tank using the washdown pump. We sometimes preheat 4 gallons in the sunshower…….
How about naming the tub manufacturer and providing a LINK to a source for those interested? How about a project budget analysis? Here is a link to a materials list which should answer your questions: http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _photo.php

Simple - If an AL State Trooper pulls him over, all he needs to say is that the contraption is for cooking crawdads. As long as he has a big container of Old Bay spice on board, the story is believable.
I am ready for crawdad boiling, but what spices do I need for a DUCK? Merganzer_Beauty.thumb.jpg

Pat said: Richard, you may deny all you want, but I know a still when I see one ( "You get you a copper kettle, you get you a copper coil"
I must admit, my favorite sundowner is a whiskey sour……….

Byrdman said: ………. Richard, bring that on up here to the Cumberland. I know Mike and B would love that...

Will do, I hope to meet up with those fine folks again soon…………….

So this morning while enjoying a great hot shower, without having to rig it up, ....I burst out laughing.... Sherryl ask...what are you laughing at... and I just had to reply a mixture of good ol American Engineering and having fun on our boats... She said she missed the noise of me falling and hitting my head.

Richard: I sure enjoyed our talk and laughs yesterday on the phone. That was fun. Need to get togther later this winter or for sure in the spring. Cheryle is welcome to use any tub we have too.
