Puget Sound area recommendations for canvas work

I want to get a full camper back canvas and full boat cover made for the TomCat. It came with a slant back canvas so, I'd like the camper back to make use of the existing snaps when possible. Any recommendations on who is still in business and doing good work in the Seattle area? I'm willing to go as far north as Blaine, as far south as Portland and as far east as Spokane to get a good job.

Guy Russell at "Emerald Cut" (206-524-3797) did an excellent job on my trawler cockpit enclosure about 5 years ago. They had a display at Fisheries Supply for a while, haven't seen it in maybe a year. Kind of an odd and fussy person, but I'm very happy with the results.

Roger,
When I purchased my boat in 2006 from EQ, Les used a canvas guy on Whidby Island for the camperback. They did a great job and it was cheaper than the people the factory were using at the time. Don't know if the're still in business but you could call Les or Kathy.

I had some work done by Churchill Bros., right there on West Marine Drive in Everett. They came highly recommended by people with boats in the marina. I am happy with the work they did for me.

I will second churchhil brothers. I need a replacement piece for the 22. Lost one of the small pieces that attaches to the cabin. I talked to the nice landy up front and see took my info around 11 am. called back at 1 and said if I could get it in by 2 I would have it back by 3. so I ran home, hitched up and dropped it off. One hour and 55 bucks later I was on the road. Good price, nice folks and really nice work.

The guys who worked with Les at EQ also did our canvas work. They were two partners called The Canvas Riggers who split up a few years ago. One of them made a go of it by himself by I heard he's no longer in business. Too bad because they did nice work.

Oyster Creek Canvas on State Street in Bellingham did mine. Les @ EQ has commented to me what a nice job they did. Good work at a fair price. You can see photos of my camperback in my album.

Just ran across a note I'd made when talking to Les at EQ a couple of weeks ago - I believe he said that Oyster Creek Canvas in Bellingham appeared to be doing good work and was copying the design that he had come up with previously (the Whidbey canvas shop split up and went their separate ways).

Dave did all the original canvas on the Mary Ellen. A few years later I had Dave do a bimini and also a cover for the inside of the hatch in the sleeping area. I was very satisfied with his work. I needed a new pin for the bimini and some velcro for the window covers and he was very quick to mail it out to me. I would consider Dave for your canvas work.

Never used them myself. Roger is asking about using some existing snaps and willing to travel for good work so that says custom to me. Doesn't King mainly do template jobs and standard products?

King Marinedoes custom canvas work and his quality is excellent. He does much of the canvas work for the Ranger Tugs as well as having templates for the C-Dory line. His prices are competitive and he does the canvas work for the Marinaut. When Big Mack mentioned Dave a few post above here, I believe he was referring to Dave Hauck (owner of King Marine).

Just had a Sunbrella slantback mooring cover put on by Diego's Custom Marine Canvas and Upholstery of Renton (425) 919-3932 . I wanted to have it done here at home if possible because my tow vehicle is off insurance for the winter. . I called around and showed pictures and got prices. Diego's was the only one that would come to the house, at no extra charge. Their price was in the ballpark with the other estimates. They showed up three times, and did a beautiful job. They even threw in a custom cover for the windlass. They sewed in Vision marine grade YKK zippers on each side, used stainless snaps with reinforced backing, and double stitched synthetic thread. Diego and his associate were professional, keeping us apprised of the progress and always prompt and friendly. Diego says he likes custom work and routinely works on some of the bigger boats around the Sound.
