To the members of this great group-- I offer an apology.

When I first joined the group back in 2001, we had the C-Dory Boat Owners Group. Now after 4 generations of administration we have this great "owners" group including the C-Ranger Tugs.

Please forgive me for wanting to keep the Forum true to the boats, C-Dory & Ranger Tugs.

I also have a 2001 Jeep and am part of another forum, Jeeps Unlimited, and since my Jeep is a Grand Cherokee, I also am a member of North American Grand Cherokee Association---- but thats not all- since my Jeep Grand Cherokee is a WJ Series, I also frequent WJ Jeeps for information specific to my Jeep.

I also have an RV-- a Safari Trek and am a member of Trek Tracks.

Now all of these groups are owner specific for the make/model.
That in no way means that they are elitist.

I am not saying that we should break it down to whether you own a 16', 22', a Tom Cat or a Ranger Tug- or what year model.
Just that I felt that the lines were getting fuzzy and we were be pulled into being a general "Small Boat Forum".

I do NOT have anything against people joining up to ask questions and finding out about our great boats-- even I signed up before buying my boat. Thats what we are here for, to share the love and adventures of the C-Dory and Ranger Tug lines of boats.

So-- if I have offended anyone or caused heartburn for anyone-- I offer my apology.

Let's get back to enjoying our C-Dory / Ranger Tug boats.

Regards,

Aw shucks, Roger...group hug.

As long as I'm lucky enough to share the stage here with TyBoo...you can rest assured, that will never happen. I've zero interest in such a site.

I have no problems accepting that this forum is largely focused on Rangers and C-Dory's, and always will. This generates plenty of discussion that pertains to all boats, small ones in particular, which I find valuable. I also enjoy sharing what I discover too.

I apologize for using the word "elitist" Roger. That's an overstatement. I understand your view fully and I'm glad we are able to move on.

You're a great guy Roger.....and you too Roger......and Roger, of course you also.
I have to confess, I sometimes need somebody to pull me back between the lines (and I've got the $93 dollar ticket to prove it). So Roger, fagetaboutit, and thanks. And you too Roger.....and you also Roger.

Hey Roger - (I gotta rub this in) We may be just a little different but what about us CD 19 folks??

Marcia

Well shucks Marcia,

Seems I may have left out the 14', 18', 19', 23', 25', 26', 29' (beast) and various other special order C-Dory sizes from through out the years.

Well there ya go---- I'll just have to write the apology all over again.

Roger

Hey something good comes out of everything. From Rogers first post I found he is a Jeep Guy and so am I presently owning 2 Grand Cherokee's. Roger and I have communicated about Jeeps in PM's and he lead me to a neat website about them. Thanks Roger. Oh by the way let me tell you a story about my Carolina Skiff

My Jeep Cherokee story. Years ago, Maybe 35, my partner and I were in the transportation business. Among the Dodges and Fords, Chevys and Oldsmobiles (two 88's, for us), we had one Jeep Cherokee for our mechanic.
So, one summer we decide as follows; Dotty and I will take our family and go cross country to LA. Ed, my partner, will then fly out to LA and drive home with his family. We take the Cherokee. The trip from hell. Besides having two young kids (he touched me, he touched me!), we got nowhere fast. The first day we made it across Pennsylvania to Columbus, OH. where we spent 3 days waiting for a new radiator. Luckily Donny and Marie were at the State Fair. Then on to Okalhoma City with the distributor cap popping off whenever it felt like it. We made it finally to LAX where somebody shouted "Hey Jersey, you ain't got no brake lights" We fly home, Ed flies out and discovers we need a new master cylinder. Oh, and Roger, you left out the 16

Thank you. It's what I tried to get across elsewhere but must have failed in writing clearly enough.

Thank you Da Nag for reinforcing the fact that there is no intent on this becoming a "small boat forum" as I was concerned that there was a tendency for the site to lean that way. Additionally, I feared this site would start welcoming some of those "R Rated Colorado River College Spring Break Small Boat Party Clothing Optional" site participants complete with their photo albums.

(Had that occurred I'd be unable to access the C-Brats during my allotted downtime at work and would have only been able to view this site in the secrecy of my closet at home! :crook )

(On a serious note...I'd like to thank Sneaks and C-Hawk for publicly "sticking their necks" out to address this issue that as least for me was on my mind as well. As some of you know, I have occasion to operate a hovercraft, and I could easily have attempted to turn this site into a hovercraft site, which certainly is not where this sites focus is. (BTW, hovercraft owners do have an owner specific site as well).

For those of you that have not had the pleasure of meeting Sneaks and C-Hawk in person as I have....they really are super guys and I suspect that in many ways you'd find them to be a delight to be around..........now back to our regularly scheduled programming.... :wink

Dave

Thanks for the Bravo Zulu. I owe you yet another beer. C-Dorys rock and so does this site! I'd absolutely hate to have it morf into something else. I'm addicted

Administrators: please delete my photo album. I'm done here. I may p.m. someone if I have a specific question about something, but generally, I've already got the contact information of those I most respect and admire. I may eventually purchase a 24 or 25 Tomcat, but I've seen where the cards lay. It matters not that I've boated my entire life in Lake Washington, the Strait of Juan De Fuca, the San Juans or the Columbia and Snake Rivers. It doesn't matter that I know the middle Columbia river better than anyone on this site or how to work these waters for the large salmon I so enjoy catching (11 over 30 lbs. in the last 4 years. This year I had an "off" year and didn't catch one that big, just 40 steelhead and salmon from 8 - 26 lbs. ) It doesnt' matter I've flyfished New Zealand with both left and right hand 80 ft. casts at age 18 for a year and Costa Rica twice. It matters not that I share my techniques of fishing and have invited to take C-Brats on the best part of our short salmon season or that I've attended two C-Brat gatherings. Hunting, though clearly an activity that can be done in conjunction with boats, is out of line. My experiences on the Columbia River bar or out fishing for halibut and tuna are null and void and worth nothing here as is my background in the jungles of Panama and U.S. Army Infantry combat there in 1989. My love of photography, dogs, family and water is not enough. I own the wrong boat. C.W.

Wow, CW. Where did that come from? Your choice of boat doesn't matter so much, but using that particular voice certainly doesn't fit on here. I didn't read every word of the discussion that precipitated this discussion, but if you were mentioned by name or otherwise singled out, I apologize on behalf of the rest of us.

Here's the deal. I successfully negotiated my way through this whole mess without picking a side or betraying my beliefs. I should be in the election.

The truth is, I always hate to see this come up because:

1) The group does a pretty good job of keeping the boards brand specific as it is. We are far from becoming all inclusive while maintaining a safe distance from snobbish exclusiveness.

2) Even a hint of this type of talk brings out a handful of the overly vocals (not always the same ones, so nobody is getting picked on!), and those are the most destructive voices on here. It's best for me to stay out of arguments with radical sorts because I instinctively want to take the opposite view no matter what is. But in this case the argument at both extremes is way wrong. Some truly want us to make it a forum for all boaters, and keep the discussions in check through deleting the ones those same folks don't like. Some want us to put strict limits on what is discussed, and keep the discussions in check through deleting the ones those same folks don't like. However...

3) It always gets mentioned that ours is the best boaters' forum on the web. Well, it could very well be, and it is that way in large part because of how it has not been managed and will only be kept that way by leaving things pretty much the same.

Sorry, but I have to cling to my centrist beliefs that if someone doesn't want to read something, they shouldn't. At least not read it over and over to the point of anger. What I don't like to read is someone saying how the site they think is the best there is ought to be changed.

If CW - or anyone for that matter - truly wishes to be removed we can do it. We do not want to, but we can. It seems to me there have only been four or five people who have asked to be removed. Most of them were gladly obliged, and one guy had his request denied (he's still here and happily posting to the delight of the rest of us).

So, CW - the only trouble you have caused for me is having to explain why you have a non-C-Dory album when we tell a lot of others we can't afford to do that. Although after the new software update is done, we will probably be removing the non-CD parent albums and the long time empty ones. So after that, you won't be a problem to me at all. Still want out?

Chris,

I truly believe the moderators have nipped this in the bud and that future talk of tribal purity will not occur again.....this year.

Hope you stick around.

-Greg

Chris,

Mike didn't mention it, and I don't know if there is such a thing here, but I hope there is some sort of 24 hour delay time before action like you requested is acted on.

I have, and I'm sure many others have enjoyed your posts. and have enjoyed meeting and talking with you. I, for one, highly respect your experience and talent, and would miss seeing your input here. Yes, I own a C-Dory, Yes, I like this site because it is geared toward C-Dory's. Does it make a difference to me that you don't? No, not as far as I can tell.

You are incredibly experienced and talented and it would be our loss if you do leave. I hope that doesn't happen.

You are welcome here, Greg, but the nipping moderators do not care for the hurtful smart-aleck remarks. We won't like 'em next year, either.

Chris

Well I'm not much into fishing and that seems to be your top forte, but I do recognise a fellow adventures spirit whom I enjoy his sharing of quest and your knowledgeable comments have been appreciated. It may be wise to take a time out to ponder your choice of moving yourself from what is widely acknowledged as the best small boating site on the web. Hope you do someday purchase a c-dory boat, but I will readily admit though a 22 foot c-dory fits us to a T, there are a lot of other great boats out there its web sites like this that are in a very limited supply.

Jay

I wrote Chris a private E-mail in case he does withdraw. However, I have learned a great deal from Chris--both from his posts and meeting with him in person and seeing his boat. There are always things to be learned from all boaters with experience and good judgement and I put Chris in this category. I hope that he will reconsider and continue to remain a member of this board. I believe that an interest in the C Dory/Ranger line of boats is the intent of this forum, not just ownership.

I wasn't being a smart-aleck, aside from knowing that this subject will be brought up next year, approximately 3.7 times. I figured it's exhausted for this year, thankfully.

Given this, how was my comment hurtful?
