Posting Pictures?

Hi Brats!

Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to put pictures in our album?
We've got shot great shots on ur digital camera, but posting them is new to us.

Any help would be appreciated, so we can show off Valkyrie, our new baby.

I'll see if I can tell you without totally confusing you.

Easiest way I have found is first get them onto your computer. Desktop or folder somewhere.

Go to your album and you will see "add photo" and "add photos". If you have more than one click on add photos. The window that comes up will give you the ability to upload up to 10 photos. Click on Browse for the first one and find where you put the photos. When you get to them click on the one you want. Continue on down. Click on upload or download or whatever it says and it will start the transfer.
It will take a while depending on your line speed. After it is done a window will say dismiss. Close that and you are done with that part. The pics should be in your album now and you can re-arrange them, edit the text , etc.

Hope that helps.

To add to what David posted I feel it is better to resize my images before uploading them. I prefer the images to be somewhere close to 640 x 480 resolution. This makes them about the right size to see in web pages and also limits the upload/download time if you have a higher resolution image to start with. I typically use the following utilities: the one built into Windows XP, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements, MS Digital Image Pro, Ifanview.

Any of those programs will do the job nicely. Once the images are resized you can then follow Davids advice above.

My typical scenario is to take the picture using the highest resolution the camera will allow. Then I will download the pictures from the datacard to my computer. I will then open them in Photoshop or Digital Image Pro and tweak the brightness and contrast. I will then save the picture to a new file with a filename that means something to me. This preserves the original file. All subsequent manipulations of the file are based on the file with the descriptive name. Finally when I get the picture where how I want it I will resize it and upload it. Granted there are times when I take the short cut and just upload the pictures but most times that is my process.

Spoken like a true nerd, Gary!

The gallery software resizes the photo down to a preset max for the albums, and also allows a slightly higher res view if the uploaded file supports it. Unless you want to touch up the pic, or you have a dreadfully slow connection, it's quicker just to slap the thing on here.

But, on the other hand, Bill dorks around with his pics before he loads them, too. Me, I'm lucky if I remembered to take the camera.

Thanks for the tips.

What can I say Mike! I wear my stripes proudly :embarrased

I'm also a Photographer wannabe (is that a word? hehehe). Of course usually when I want to get a good picture I have left the camera at home :sad My camera of choice right now is a Canon Digital Rebel or a Canon G6. I have had so much fun taking pictures with my wifes G6 that I am actually temped to sell the Rebel. Of course the next time I want to do artsy fartsy stuff with the camera it will be the Rebel that gets the call. What else are all those extra lenses for?

To add to what Gary said, Irfanview is the program of choice for noodling pix because it works great and it is free...OTOH, what Mike said - I just let pHp resize mine automagically...So, Nick - do you have any great shots of the Eastern Shore?

OK, I now understand how to post pictures in an album. How does one get an album. We're picking up journey on next week, and we'd also like to show off. I just cant find the create album formula.

Boris, journey on

Good morning, Boris.

You now have an album in place (it's on page 11 of the Our C-Dorys album list). I'll have to do the linking to your profile when I get home this evening. You don't want me to try it from work, because if I get caught in here on this guy's computer I will have to finish in a hurry and you might end up with a Bayliner or something. For now, you can just click this to get there.

I made the J and the O caps for the album title. If you want them lower case, just let me know.

And try to think of ways to make the time go by while you wait for your new C-Dory. Keep telling yourself "It's just a boat". Yeah, maybe that will help.

I've had the Rebel for 2 years and I've never even installed the software they shipped with it except for the Adobe Photoshop Elements. I also have an old copy of Photoshop 6.0 that I frequently use.

Also, once you have the picture in your album you can then use the IMG tag to have it come into the message.

Fishtales uploaded a picture that I thought was simply Awsome. I downloaded it and tweaked it a bit and this is the result.

Gary-

Thanks- that B&W looks great. I have photoshop 6 and the book for dummies. I still don't know how to work it. Guess I need to open it once in a while, eh.

Thanks Roger. With Microsoft Digital Image Pro converting to black and white is as simple as clicking a button. Except that I also tweaked the brightness and contrast abit. In Photoshop you should also be able to do this but I don't remember how and since I'm at work I can't check for you.

To put a picture in your post that has already been uploaded to the internet do the following.

Open the picture in your browser (these directions are for Internet explorer) and right click on it. Select "Properties". When the dialog box comes up select the "Address URL" and copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl+C).

Now that you have the URL of the picture you can use the IMG tags as follows.

Code:
[ATTACH=full]101329[/ATTACH]

As you can see the tags are wrapped with square brackets and the closing tag has a / character after the opening square bracket. This is a pretty standard way to use tags.

And just in case anybody wonders what Valkyrie Nick and Marcia look like, here is a shot I snapped at the 2005 GES CBGT...a GREAT event, mainly for getting acquainted with a whole new bunch of neat people!

I bought my first digital camera three weeks ago -- a Nikon 4800. Picture Project software comes with many of the Nikon cameras. I have found that I need to click the FILE menu and select EXPORT JPEG to get copies of my photos which can then be uploaded to my photo album.

I really like my new camera, but I already have a problem --- the lens cover will no longer open fully, leaving a dark area at the edge of my pictures. Good thing I got the extended coverage.

Nick, I hope you will figure out what you will need to do to post your photos. We'll be waiting to check out the pictures of your new boat.

Good Luck,
Corwin

Help! I just tried to post some pics from our Lake Superior trip and I keep getting a message that says "Invalid Image". I'm using a high speed internet provider, but I have not resized my images prior to trying to upload them. Idiot that I am about such things, what do I need to do?

Al,

What format is the image you are trying to upload? IE: What is the extension on the file name? If it is not .bmp, .jpg, or .gif I'm not sure the upload program would know how to handle it. If you can convert the files to .jpg you should have no problem.

What kind of camera do you have?

They're all JPEGs, Gary. We just recently bought our first digital camera, a Canon 20D (like the inimitable Redfox). Since we have a very slow connection at home, I put the pics I wanted to post on a CD and took them to the local coffee shop where they have a high speed connection. I tried uploading the first group of ten, but only three made it. Then I tried adding them singly, and that didn't work either. I know the file sizes are huge, but I haven't played with the software enough to even know how to resize them. But then, as Tyboo explained, the site gallery software should automatically resize them.
