Possession Coho 2014

I thought last year's dialog of what was working, when, where and how was helpful and a great tool to get into more fish. Figured might as well getting it going again this year. No pinks, but the silvers are shaping up for another great run.

After a week and a half in Texas, today was the beginning of coho for me.

Rumor had it the morning is when all the fish were caught but jet lag was going to keep me from the AM bite. Hit the water about 11 and dropped in halfway to Shipwreck. First fish came on the southbound troll, 75ft of cable out in 300ft or so of water. Second fish came also on a southbound troll at Picnic Point at the same numbers. Both fish caught on a Gibbs UV Red Racer flasher, glow squid/UV Ace insert and a salted herring strip, 36in back. After a couple hours without any action, changed to a purple haze flasher and frog something or another spoon by Silver Horde. Third fish came on that on a westbound troll from Picnic Point to Possession Point with 77ft of cable out.

3 fish wasn't a bad day for a late start. That and the weather was fantastic.

Saw Tom out there with a good sized afternoon fish in the box as well.

Anybody else had success?

Troy

We did three rods on the morning bite. Hooked six and landed 4, plus a large king we had to release. All fish came on hot spot flashers with hoochies 24-36" behind. 90-100 feet of water. Trolling fast and making turns non stop. Caught all fish betwen shilshole and richmond beach.[/img]

We did three rods on the evening tonight. Hooked up doubles and lost both at the boat. Lost one more before we finally landed one. Not our best night but we are cookin fish for dinner. Same tackle and spot as previous post.

Nice work Kevin. Reports I heard from Shipwreck were fairly bleak. Hoping to make a run a few evening sessions this week. Thanks for the report!

Nice fish from Sunday afternoon. Monday morning, up at 4 to get lines wet at 545, was a bust . I only saw one fished boated. Oh and we had 8 large crab on Sunday too.

Way to go guys. Now that the family outings are done, it's time for me to concentrate of fishing. I'll see y'all out there all of September.

Peter

Good reports and NICE fish Tom!

Hope to get out there Saturday afternoon since I am selling my boat and getting it checked and then do the deal Sunday morning. Oh well, see if I can do anything on the afternoon high around the Shipwreck on Saturday 9/6.

Wow Tom, that fish is a beauty. How big was it? It looks huge for a Coho, at least 18lbs or are you short-arming that baby? :wink

Hopefully I'll get mine this weekend. I'll be out both days with family.

Peter

Fishing was red hot for the AM bite yesterday morning but abruptly died off. We had 5 fish hooked by 7:30 AM although only 2 made it into the net.

Not too heart broke about that since I've limited myself to keeping only one fish per trip (unless another is hooked bad and won't survive). Freezer is quite full.

Saturday was much slower. No action until about 9AM. Hooked a double with both making it in the net.

Had to be back at the dock by 10:30 both days.

Fished Shipwreck on Saturday and caught both fish at 75' of cable. Sunday we picked a line from the Scatchet Head can to the Yellow can in the shipping lane. All the fish came within a few hundred yards of each other at 65' of cable.

I fished sunday with my son and a freind and only managed one fish to the boat. We had one short strike and one other miss that did not release from the down rigger but did flatten my coho killer and left teeth marks. Very weird. Going to day after 4.

We'll be out at the shipwreck and browns bay tomorrow morning hoping to get some in the boat. We opted to go up the snohomish river from the Everett marina yesterday morning after hearing a report of fish being in there. I had a nice one hooked within a few minutes of trolling our plugs. After a short lull, I had another avereage sized silver in the boat. They were rolling all over and are definately already in the river.

Hey Tom,

We were seeing alot of fish between the last powerlines to just a bit downriver of the hwy 9 bridge. Didnt see many fish downriver, around the trestle.

That was on the 1st half of the outgoing tide

Just finished 3 straight days of Coho fishing in the sound with mixed results. Went out with Caryn on Saturday but we got skunked. :(
I took out my sister and her boyfriend from California + my sister from Kent on Sunday and we had a good day. The California sis caught her first fish ever. She and her bf caught small cookie cutter Coho out on the west side of possession. My Kent sis caught the fish of the day, a nice 8 lb 11 oz Coho out near the oil docks. All caught on white hoochies.we went 3 for 3. :thup
Today we took out my dad and his gf out but got skunked again. :sad

It was great communicating with my C-Brat fishing buddies, Kevin on Catch 22, Dwight on Checkpoint I I and Patrick on Kim Christine. It helps.a lot to have instant on the water Intel. Thanks guys.

If any other C-Brat would like to communicate with me, PM me your phone number.

I've been fishing out of Westport for the past two weekends. Coho fishing out there right now is stupid easy. Limits every day without much effort. We caught and released about 20 fish this past Sat. AM and kept 4 of the nicer ones (1 king and 3 coho). Could have been done by 8AM if I was willing to settle for coho early but I wanted kings. After releasing many coho caught deep, I decided to fish up high and limited on coho in about 60 mins. The weekend before, we limited the boat two days in a row in about 3-4 hours with 5 people on board. It's nice to be able to fish the sound and save the travel time but it's so much easier to catch fish in the ocean, I find it worth the trip.

Skunked fishing at Possession yesterday. All the people I know got fish, but not us. Apparently there was bad juju on the boat, maybe that 22 I just sold put the hex on the 25, it being across the fence from it. Heck, I don't know.
Will wash all the gear and get fresh herring strips and try again this weekend.

Good job Peter!
Roger, I envy you my friend, love fishing the ocean!

Fished the light house to ship wreck to Poss. Point with out a hit. Got the lines in at 5pm and was back to the dock at 9 pm. Lots of fish on the screen but not bites. Storm was coming in so the barometer was dropping. Hope it picks up before the Salmon for soliders derby this weekend.
