With the weather changing, a little drier and little warmer this weekend looks like it's going to be a nice weekend to be out on the boat. I am wondering, where's your favorite place to tie up to here in Portland? Is there a nice spot with a dock and maybe a place for a six year old to enjoy playing around? Thoughs? I do want to tie up to a dock as we have a dog and smaller child so having access to land is a must. Power would be nice but not necessary as I have a new diesel heater on the boat. I'd like to stay no more than about 40 miles from the Portland area, about two hours of motoring no more would be great.

Bring on the ideas!

Scappoose marina might do the job. A bit remote. The marine CG off St Helens is another tasty spot. The island would be good for kid and dog walks. Access to services via dinghy or motor to the marina (crowded).

Moorage of the sort you want in PDX is scarce, and security may be a concern. A much smaller concern out of the metro area.

Up river: Beacon Hill State park, on the Washington side.
Also: Government Island has docks on the north side.

Roger J, (In Cahoots) stayed at a marina just up the Willamette from the Columbia confluence on the south side, for a month or so each spring. he may have a recommendation for that. I think it is Freds Marina.

Hope that is some help.

Don't know Fred's Marina, but it would be a lot more convenient to downtown PDX than St. Helens or Scapoose, for sure! More protected, also.

Government Island is a solid second choice, but I think Becon Rock has my attention. If anyone wants to join this weekend it might shape up to be a good time. Becon Rock, I am going to bring some fire wood and the family. Looks like Sunday is suppose to be 60!
