Calling All C-Brats! Many of you are familiar with Portland Christmas Ships, the two week annual lighted boat parades in December on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. This year, which will be our 59th, we are actively recruiting for new Captains, especially with smaller boats (16 to 30 feet). It is a fun way to be part of the Portland holiday spirit, while also creating a new Christmas tradition that your friends and family will enjoy. Participation is free, all you have to do is decorate your boat in a lighted Christmas theme, have insurance, and be full of holiday joy and good cheer. Seaweed is my 16 Angler, and she has been with the Willamette fleet for 4 years, you can view her Christmas Ship pictures in my album. Contact me at 360-600-2167, or see our website at www.christmasships.org just click on the "Become A Captain" tab on the lower left front page for more information. Ho Ho Ho...

Bill - I'll be doing it this year. I signed up last year, but had to back out last minute to take care of some family issues.

What I will say is that it's seemed very well organized from all the email correspondence I received. I'm looking forward to it!

This is a great picture by the way:

That is great news, Rob. Sorry to hear you couldn't make it last year, but we look forward to your participation this year. We are recruiting for both rivers, but the Willamette fleet is especially looking for smaller boats like our C-Dorys. We are in the heart of downtown Portland at Riverplace, where they donate slips for us. The lighting is great at night. Let me know if there is anything you need from us. Feel free to contact me directly if questions arise. Enjoy the summer, see you later this year. Bill.

I was at the Portland Starlight Parade this year and Jamie told me I had to get down to the staging area and see the guy with the C-Dory! I visited with him for a bit and learned a little about the Portland Christmas Ship cruises that have been going on for a lot of years. It is done solely for the entertainment of the people who enjoy watching it and nobody makes any money on it. It is a pretty neat tradition and is very popular in Portland.

Here are some pictures of the parade entry.
