OK So here's how Port Townsend went for us...
Friday night prepped the boat. tested batteries, ran motors a bit (everything started on first attempt, I love that feeling). loaded up and got ready.
We decided to try for Boat Haven since the launch seemed ideal. I figured if we got into parking issues, I'd figure it out, but I was worried a bit about low tide at Mystery Bay and wanted to be able to leave at our leisure on Sunday.
we motored into mystery bay, as far as we dared, at low tide to explore and have some fun. It was wonderful. Then back to Point Hudson to find our slip and know where we would we be sleeping!
Point Hudson Marina:
after which we headed up to Fort Warden. found a nice little nook of a spot at the Marine Science Center dock.
The water was incredible!! the beaches at Fort Warden, aside from being a little gravelly and grey, felt like a tropical vacation. I got sun burnt pretty good! my boy had a blast picking shells and rocks that struck his fancy.
later that night we tied up at Point Hudson then walked the VERY short walk into downtown Port Townsend. BEAUTIFUL town. we stopped by one of the soda fountain shops for a milk shake, coffee, ice cream, and a 1/2 lb bag of candy at the adjacent candy store. From there we walked down to a mexican restaurant for dinner before calling it a night.
I'm embarrassed that I've never visited this beautiful town before, living here my whole life. I think my next trip I'll launch out of everett to make more of the cruise.
the next morning was a little grey but not bad. we walked into town and had breakfast at the Courtyard Cafe. I highly recommend it as a breakfast location. great food and coffee
it also happened to be the only place open on a sunday morning....
and cookies so big you'll go delirious!
Summary:
Glad to have my first trip of 2014 under my belt. we had a tester a month ago on Sammamish, but this was the first real cruise and overnighter. it was also our first overnighter with the boy, which went very very well. After winterizing the boat for 7-8 months and taking care of minor items over the winter, as well as spending about $2500 so far on updates and tunes this spring I was starting to really get a hankering to get out. I'm so glad we were blessed with such a nicely maintained boat and that we have done our best to maintain it well ourselves. When I'm out exploring new areas and the boat handles and motors around like a charm it eliminates so much stress and creates such a wonderful experience.
Already have the next 3 trips in mind
