Politics Again

Wow, that little clip got a lot more attention than I ever expected.

Jim, nicely said!! Additionally, I agree about the 55+ communities.

Roger, that music is Crap. The 'C' is silent.

I always wondered what he'd name his boat, if Eminem bought a C-Dory?

BTW, Snoop Dog's boat would be named C-Shizzle.

Did I mention: I really need to get back to the water?

I think it's Ed Sullivan's fault he brought those dxxx Beatles hear and our culture has been down hill every since! He ran Lawrence Welk right out of show biz!

Other trends that show a lack of respect for oneself, others, and authority:

All the players and coaches in a football game calling the plays and fouls with hand signals instead of deferring to the officials. ADD IN ridiculous celebrating by players to draw attention to themselves after a play. "ME"!!!

Tattoos and body piercings. We were brought up to look upon these things as Barbaric, and while there certainly can be another point of view for artful ones, much of what you see is just plain gross and looks like hell warmed over. Period!

The "dress-down" styles in clothes. Casual has a place, "grundge" and beyond is plain sloppy and shows lack of self-respect.

Do even get me started on the lyrics and language on what passes as "music". We would have been arrested for speaking that in public years ago. Now some groups wear it as a badge of pride.

etc., etc.

If I'm an old fuddy-duddy, so be it, I'll be a happy one, anyway!

Joe. :teeth :thup

Last week, I held the door open for a lovely lady (much younger than I) and she said, "thank you,....hmmm, I guess chivalry is not dead", to which I nodded, smiled and tipped my hat. (It just goes to show that sometimes us old guys are appreciated by the younger generation of ladies and they do appreciate the kindness shown to them). I'm thinking that old age may win out... :wink .

Marvin, I wish he had run Lawrence Welk completely out. Every Saturday at 6:00 PM we get visited by Lawrence, courtesy of Oregon Public Broadcasting. Ana one ana two...

Don't forget he also brought us Elvis......and thats a good thing.

Folks, please, let's keep our heads about us. Ed Sullivan did not create the downward spiral, he merely showed us what the general public found entertaining. It was a sign of the times. The downward spiral started when the general public sat on their butts on the couch and didn't get up and change the channel or turn the tube off. For you youngsters, this was before TV remotes.

On a personal note, the Beatles changed my life. I saw all those girls screaming (I was 10 years old at the time) and said to myself, "Self, you have to learn to play guitar." If not for the long hair and guitar playing, I never would have been able to attract The Blonde.

Jim Morrison changed my view of fire... as in, "Come on, baby, light my fire..."

Liberace changed my wardrobe... but, I digress.

Now, Topo Gigio... what a talent; you don't see a lot of talking mice these days.

And my butt still hurts from the spanking I got when I tried to learn how to spin plates on sticks. How was I to know that was the "good china"?? Looked like a bunch of old plates to me.

And don't get me started on how "American Idol" is just an updated version of Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour.

I think the downward spiral started with shows like Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and Sky King. All those guys, no real love interest, and people only got shot in the hand. Bonanza? Four guys and their Chinese male housekeeper living out in the boonies? No one thought that was... um, unusual? Gunsmoke? Marshall Matt hanging out with that whore-mongering Miss Kitty? And did anyone really believe that Festus could ever replace Chester??? And Sky King? "Niece" Penny?? Riiiiiiiiight.

The country's going to Hell in a handbasket, and I don't even know what a handbasket is! :disgust

Happy New Year,
Jim

Wrong again. I still remember my dad, sitting with a Lucky Strike, listening to Tennessee Jed on the big Philco radio. "Git 'em Tennesee", "Got em, dead center." Yes, I think that was when the trouble started....and then came Eddie Fisher, who could drink Coke and not burp when he launched into "Oh, my pappa."., how is that even possible ?

Actually, it all began when they named the C-Dory after Eddie Cantor.

All I know is that I'm glad to have contributed to (started?) the downward spiral of this thread by bringing the topic of the young kids music into it.

Actually, everything, including the music was pretty straightforward and wholesome until the whole evolution into "rock and roll" music in the mid-fifties, and we all know where that kind of fallout can be traced back to..........

AHA! So, it is the fault of our grandparents' generation. They of course developed the atom bomb. But wait, then it must really be Hitler and Hirohito's fault, as they necessitated the atom bomb...

The great revelation here is that is is never OUR fault!

Truth be told, it all started with a dog, Nipper, the logo of either the Philadelphia Storage Battery Company, which became Philco, or RCA Victor. I think you can still see the original factory on the Delaware River, under the Ben Franklin bridge, next to, of course, the prison

.
