Polishing Petrified Driftwood

Some of you might spot some of this, especially in areas where there was a history of gold production. The miners went to bedrock (dredging and otherwise) and in the course of that heaved up driftwood on the river bars.

And yes, I realize that if you want to do what I'm doing here, there's more equipment to buy . . .

Very interesting and beautiful. Where are you finding this?--and how low does the process take? I have always thought of petrified wood as taking many thousands of years. However in certain chemical environments, apparently it can occur much faster.

No, I am not going to take up another hobby! What a diverse group of great people we have in the C Brats!

Thanks for sharing!

These are coming from N. Georgia in a highly mineralized environment. The figure I most often come across is 150 million years for age. I have run across a paper (like you I suppose) where petrification can now be done in a laboratory - though I doubt that would be economically feasible on small pieces. The small piece like the one in the movie can be done in an 1/2 hour on a Diamond Pacific Pixie or Genie (all the grit wheels are on one shaft you just move down the line). On my old Lortone where you change wheels and drums 2 1/2 hours (and it sold for $15 so that's not exactly feasible either - definitely a hobby).

Nope, No, no way are you going to get me hooked on this scheme..... I keep looking at that darn expensive metal detector I bought from seeing your gold videos..... you make it look so easy... n I buy it every time...

Got the Hobo Stove, the rocket motor... and the detector.... still have not found one single bit o gold... and polishing driftwood or whales teeth just is too far out.... I keep watching....you have such good information

I keep trying...

I like this one because it delivers clean water to the wheels, so there's no cross contamination - but of course, you won't be getting one, so . . .

Darn it....Ya got me watching yer videos ....n sure enough ... Finding Opels is just too good to miss..... we have tons of lava flows here locally and I have seen that stuff...never knew what it was... looks like amber but I knew it could not be... pretty stuff... think I will take a ride in the jeep and see if I can find some white rocks...good idea...neat

Think I will take that damm metal detector with me...maybe I will come across a creek out there to waste more of my time...
