Places to dock and explore in Chesepeake

We'd like to enjoy a day out on the water. And dock up somewhere, maybe go for a stroll, eat dinner, and return for a relaxing evening. Any ideas? We'd be leaving from Bodkin Creek. We like the less traveled areas. I am not sure how realistic this is as it's a holiday weekend. Any thoughts or :idea :idea

If you want to have dinner, it won't be "less traveled" particularly on Labor Day weekend. I thought you had a CBGT at your place that weekend.

We like St. Michaels or Chestertown.

Head to Rock Hall -- you can dock at a place with a big open deck for cracking crabs!

Chestertown is good too -- more town to explore.

I am close to Cambridge in the Choptank river and generally go to downtown Cambridge to eat by boat. This is probably a little bit too far from your place, but if you adventure to come this way, you have several options. Probably better for an overnight stay:

You can dock for free at the municipal marina for a a couple of hours (across from the lighthouse replica) or in Cambridge creek, also for free, in front of the parking lot of the county building (ugly 1970s grey building). I prefer Cambridge Creek. From those two places you can walk to Poplar or Race street and find places to shop and eat. I recommend Bistro Poplar http://www.bistropoplar.com (disclosure: I know the Pastry Chef very well..she is my wife).

You can find more information at: http://www.tourdorchester.org/ http://www.tourdorchester.org/

Other places to dock free and eat are:
- Hyatt Chesapeake Resort. They have a good happy hour on Thursdays http://chesapeakebay.hyatt.com/hyat...g_detail.jsp?itemDesc=fboutlet&itemId=1002850

- Mantra (Sushi). This place just opened and has a big dock. It has great views of the river http://www.clearviewathornspoint.com

Before getting to Cambridge you have Oxford, it is a nice town, but there is no public dock.

Let me know if you are in the area.

Yes you are correct. We wanted to, but no one has rsvp'd. I suspect it's due to the short notice. Next time we'll have it properly posted well in advance. Of course the invite is still out there for a last minute drop in. :thup :smile

Lou is correct -- Waterman's is the place. Sit so you can watch the entry to the harbor -- always fun as it is relatively narrow and sailboats mixed with big power boats make for great people watching 8>))

Waterman's is a restaurant, the marina is Rock Hall Landing Marina, phone 410 639 2224 great people, nice facility. If you don't already have a free Active Captain Account sign and get into the inacrtive cruing section and look up the reveiws on this marina. they are the best. We came in there with three boats, one of us needed something from West Marine, someone from the marina drove him there waited and then took him to the hardware store waited all for free. I'm sure who ever it was tipped generously. Great spot Great people. Watermans is right next to the docks.
