Place for the summer

As a resident of Las Vegas I concur in Thataway's assessment of summer at Lake Powell -- HOT! OK for a few days but it will wear you down pretty quickly.

How about a trip north or south along "I 5 corridor" -- Puget Sound, Columbia River, Willamette River, Lake Shasta, SF Bay and the Delta, Lake Berryessa (wine tasting too), Lake Tahoe and other lakes east of the mountains -- Paulina, East Lake in Oregon, etc -- then Lakes Mead and Mojave/Mohave if you need a dose of heat.

Bill- That agenda would take more than a Summer, and sounds like an annual North-South Migration Route for some Water-Borne Snowbirds!

The PNW sounds like your place. Summer weather is normally great and we have a ton of waterways to explore.

Are you planning on taking day trips on the boat or cruising for several days at a time on it? This makes a big difference, particularly at 6 knots in your Ranger, in terms of where you should be. I don't know if there are any places to park an RV in the San Juans. That's where I'd want to be. Personally I don't find the San Juans too crowded in the summer, but I spend most of my time on an island without any public parks or marinas, so I suspect that makes a difference.

If you are only planning day trips, you'll probably want to move the RV around some so you can see more places. Head up to BC as well, you can drive and ferry way up the coast and explore around the various inlets. You may want to consider driving to Egmont and making the trip up to Princess Louisa. It is spectacular and is ~35 NM from Egmont.

I figured the "I 5 tour" would be kind of an "endless summer" event.

Start at the top or bottom of the left coast, head south or north then head east on one of the Interstate cutoffs to go home when that segment of the tour is over -- if boat is not needed at home park it at an appropriate storage facility and continue next season.

Should add in some So Cal coastal cruising too.

Instead of Great Loop call it the Long String of Diverse Water Explorations . LSD-WE for short.

Looking at all the alternatives.........

How about joining these boys in Kentucky on the river? Gotta love it!

After seeing this, I think I'll call up Brother Byrd, and see if he's got any openings this summer just down the river in Tennessee!

Thanks Joe, Jo-Lee and I enjoyed it enough to watch twice.

For a summer place. Prefer the way north west, but agree with those who like to keep moving on seeing and enjoying a deversity of places. If I had to chose one area for the summer other than Yellowstone it would be here. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... CCEQ9QEwBg
Located in a fantastic setting on one of the worlds most beautiful lakes and about 125 miles from both Skagway, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory it has much to offer for those who really enjoy a unigue small town with close access to some of the great wildnerness areas lift in the world.

We have been there several times and plan to visit the town and cruise Atlin Lake on our return from PWS, Alaska this summer.

We've always enjoyed the drive up through BC to Prince Rupert. Interesting little towns, and lots of places to boondock along the way. Once in Prince Rupert you could launch and go as far as you like south on the Inside Passage, then back to the RV to replenish, and head north as far as you like into Alaska, and back. Make sure you stop at Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, and by all means the Ice Field Parkway Visitor Center!

Be prepared to see bear, big horns, and the occasional moose.

Best,
Casey
