Permatrim on Honda 9.9?

Has anyone put a Permatrim on a Honda 9.9 kicker?

I've spent two days reading everything I could find on the Internet about Permatrims. I've talked to anyone willing to talk to me about the Permatrim and have received very different opinions.

Reading various "conversations" on C-Brats also reveals differing opinions.

I suspect a lot of my boating this year will be slow evening cruises, and with gas prices being what they are I plan to use the 9.9 whenever possible.

Would a Permatrim make enough of a difference on a 9.9 to warrant the price?

The Permatrim (and other hydrofoils) have their effects at planning speeds, which you won't be getting out of a 9.9 hp motor on a C-Dory.

Put that 9.9 or a 15 on a light 12 foot aluminum boat, and you'd see all the expected improvements in quickened initial planning, lower planning speed, more fore/aft stability, better attitude control, etc.

I made my own hydrofoil/plate for my 15 hp Johnson on my 12 ft Gregor aluminum boat, and got all those benefits, big time!

As always, Joe is correct. The foils (such as Dolfins) do help small boats with low hp outboards get up on plane--but no help at all at displcement speeds. Save your money.

The main use of a Permatrim on a C Dory is to get the bow down and let it "cut the water" --and present the "V" forward in chop. That will not happen with a 9 h p outboard.
