Permatrim--again??

I am considering installing a permatrim this next spring.
My boat is a V-hull 26' C-Dory with a single 200HP Honda. I also have trim tabs.

Will a permatrim add anything to the performance.??
I have no complaints now but read of how great they are. Any input from folks that have them would be appreciated.

I would think it would do the same for the Venture/Cape Cruiser 26 as it does for the 25--that is improve the ride into chop. It is in addition to the trim tabs. On our 25, it actually improved the mileage, time to get on plane, and planing speed. Generally it will also allow a slightly lower planing speed.
 
The need for these on the 22's and 25's is to push the bow (our "V") down in chop to keep from pounding (or at least reduce it on our flat bottom). Being a deep vee, you shouldn't need it for that reason. But with a deep vee you have a self made hole to go through to get on plane and the trim tabs should reduce that transition time and allow you a somewhat lower minimum planing speed.

We added a permatrim to our 25 a few years ago. I can't really say it made a huge difference one way or another. I didn't do a real good job of documenting the performance before and after so this is just anecdotal. I think its a little better heading into the chop than it was with just the tabs alone. It may plane at a little slower speed. I can't say if it affected the milage one way or another. I do think it helps keep the bow down with a full load of fuel. With all that said, I'm glad I have it and won't be taking it off any time soon. :roll:
Meander has Yamaha 150 and 9.9 and on most trips is loaded for cruising.

Is the motor mounted at correct height?

Bob commented earlier on his 25 (f I remember correctly) that he had a permatrim but the motor was too low and needed to be moved up so the permatrim was even with the bottom of the boat
 
This is not a Venture hull, but a "Pro Angler".

I don't think it's a like the traditional "flat" C-Dory hull.
 
Good call, Matt; I missed the Pro Angler, and focused on the 26 foot and made the false assumption that it was one of the Venture boats.

I don't know the dead rise on the "V" hulls of these boats. I have owned boats with up to 24 degrees of deadrise aft. The only boats I have had Permatrims on were the C Dory. The increased time to plane, and probably lower planing speed would hold for a boat with deeper V.

I think they also enhance low speed boat control somewhat. We have trim tabs but rarely use them. As we can always shift weight around to get the side to side thing leveled out.

I like the Perma Trims on my TomCat for keeping the bow down in higher wave situations, but there are two other benefits I really enjoy:

1 - Perma Trims allow steerage while "coasting". Coming near the slip, I put the engines in neutral and the extended Perma Trims act a bit like rudders, allowing one to steer while the props are not driving.

2 - Discovered by accidentally slipping overboard while no dive ladder was set, the Perma Trims act like an "elevator seat" you can sit upon, or stand upon, and reach around to push that "tilt" switch on the side of the outboards and elevate yourself up to the stern level. You can also just sit and kneel and then stand on them like a step to allow directly getting back into the boat.

Additionally, on a very hot day, they allow you to sit in the cool water with a drink and snack on the swim step and visit.

Thanks for the good info. I believe I will order one in the spring. AS suggested I need to check the mounting height of my motor so it will give the best result with a Permatrim.
I found an M-8 for a 200 HP Honda for $219.95. Is there a better deal somewhere else???
