Parking near the Erie Canal

Does anyone know of extended parking for a truck and trailer while we cruise the Erie canal and possibly into Canada.

We are looking for something near Whitehall or Seneca Lake, but any good place along the Erie might be acceptable.

Seneca Lake now charges $7 per day and a private marina is asking $10. For a 6 to 8 week cruise, that becomes prohibitive for us.

Thanks for suggestions.

We launched our CD22 in Schenectady, NY. We contacted Schenectady Parking and they had a parking spot right outside their office that we used for our two week cruise. It was about a 2 mile walk back to the boat - but not that bad (I ended up just putting on running gear and running back).

We then cruised to Buffalo, NY and took the Amtrak back to Schenectady to pickup the truck and trailer. Amtrak is right by the parking area.

Here is the parking contact:

That is correct. $5 per day with weekends free. Thank you.

Have fun.

We put our truck and trailer in a long term storage area at Seneca Lake State Park. Not a fenced off area, but we left ours there for a couple months with no issue. And the price was right: free... if you rent a slip for a night or two. That was a couple years ago, so you might want to check to see if they still offer that; but you can't beat the price.

Tom,
I live about 15 miles south of the canal off NY state route 8, that is south of Utica. We are about 2 hours from Seneca Lake and have rented a slip there for the 2012 season. At any rate I have plenty of room for parking at our place and you are welcome to it if the distance, location, etc. will work for you. Send me a PM if you want more info.
