Parallels for Mac!

OK, parted with a few bucks, bought Parallels for the MacBook...installed Windoze XP, running great under Parallels so far! FWIW, Parallels is an emulator environment that lets you install other OSes into virtual machines under OSX...it inherits the wireless connection, recognizes the Superdrive as a DVD drive, so far have not found anything that Windoze running on a PC can do that it can't do under Parallels. This is mainly just because, still have not found anything I actually need Windoze for...

 
I know I don't belong here, kinda got that feeling you must get when going into a Whore house. Shouldn't be here but couldn't resist!

Is Mac the US gymnastic hopeful on the parallel bars? :smilep

It won't run 3-D graphics games -- But Boot Camp and the VMware product will. That said, I prefer Parallels myself.

When Parallels first came out, I thought for a moment, "There's the answer to a question that no one asked." Oh, yes, I understand that there are lots more programs for PCs than for Macs... but, really, how many word processing programs do you need on one machine? We bought our first Mac in 1984*, and have owned many of them since. During those years, I was "forced" into having a couple PCs due to the short-sightedness of the Eastman Kodak Company and printing software that was only for the PC (and that was the only non-Mac roadblock we came across). While the two operating systems have gotten closer to each other over the years (to the point where you can boot up XP on a Mac :crook ), the Mac has always felt less "clunky" than the PC.

This is more than Honda vs Suzuki, single vs twin, or Raymarine vs Furuno... it's more along the lines of (gasp) sail vs power. And now that our buddy Pat has discovered sailing and Macs, can the joy of retirement (vs "I love my job") be far behind??? :mrgreen:

* And before the old original Mac, we used an Apple IIe... which Joan was still using to do her studio accounting up 'till 2002. 8)

No word processing, but I'm planning to use Parallels to run my RayNav software when it finally arrives. There will be other packages that are only available on Windoze that I can now run without having to go to a Windoze machine.

I've been running it on my MacBook for months and each revision made switching between systems more seemless. I regularly compose in Word on the PC side and edit by listening to a play back on the Mac side.

FWIW, I've read Microsoft has a licensing issue with running VISTA with Parallels but from all reports it runs fine.

BINGO! Now there's a perfectly good reason, and I stand (sit) corrected. :D Let me know how that works out. Love my Macs, love my Raymarine E-series... that would let them talk to each other. Very cool. :thup
