Diesel is more fuel efficient yes, but, assuming something like this was available in the 100hp range, one would likely have to contend with two other diesel traits - expensive and heavy. Also, keep in mind that this diesel/electric hybrid drive does not have the fuel efficiency perk of energy recovery (regenerative braking) that auto diesel/electric hybrids have. In fact, using the electric motor in combination with the diesel is less efficient than just using the diesel alone. The only reason for using the electric motor that I can see is to increase hole shot performance.
