OT- KZ Campers

In 2009 Marcia and I bought a lightly-used 2008 KZ 240 RL trailer. We had first seen it at the Cleveland RV Show and really liked the layout, the fact that it was spaciously designed for two, its amenities and build quality. We have taken a number of trips to Wyoming with it and were very glad that we bought it.

However, Wyoming-bound in July, we noticed that the fiberglass skin was separating from the plywood on the sides near the front and on the front itself. A stop at an RV dealer confirmed that we had a delamination problem. I stopped at a Lowe's and bought some white duct tape to seal the front corners from further damage from wind at highway speeds.

Anyhow, the KZ factory in Indiana (what a surprise!) was only ten miles from our line of travel home, so we stopped there and talked to customer service. The service manager confirmed that we had a delam problem and said "If you're lucky you have a leaky roof, too!" No laughter on our part at that one.

The roof was leaking and that resulted in the delamination of the sides and front. He encouraged us to bring it back for repair and noted that the material on the roof was defective and the manufacturer would pro-rate our repair at an 80% rate.

We took it back a week later with a list of upgrades that new models had and ours didn't. KZ called last week to tell us that our unit was done and that there was NO CHARGE for the repair. KZ picked up the remaining 20% of the repair. Keep in mind that the warranty was for two years for the original owner. We bought it used and it is now four years old. They also winterized it for free and noted that we could leave it at the factory until next spring, at no charge. How is that for customer service?

I mentioned this to a friend who repairs RV's on a small time basis and he was amazed. It seems that most RV owners who go back to the factory with a problem like ours, and no longer under warranty, are sent packing.

We are very impressed with KZ and they have definitely won our loyalty.

Nick

more often than not, you go back to the factory or dealer and find a vacant lot because they went out of business. Delamination is way too common on many RV's.
