Options for a New C-Dory 22

Jake,
Have you ever waterskied behind a 9.9 hP outboard and an Inflatable? How about my first time water-skiing behind a 16 foot Chris Craft with a 60 HP Gray Marine inboard in 1952 (Lake Arrowhead--standing dock start)--or for the years I was in Med school and solom skied behind my 13 foot Wolverine cold molded boat with a 25 hp outboard?

I have a lot of experience water skiing in both low power--and high power craft--including at over 75mph behind a full blown Sanger many nights on Shaver Lake, CA.

You are correct that we do tow the grandkids behind the C Dory on tubes--and have done that in S. Calif.--and it works great behind a 22 with 90 hp.
Is a C Dory a ski boat--no, but it will pull skiers, and tubers, better than you might think.

Regards.

Bob,
I had a strong feeling you'd done it all. :) :) Must be nice to have lived such a full life, you make me jealous. You must have been one skinny kid. :) Unless you want to dredge the bottom for a minute or two, I think it takes about 200 hp to get me up on the skis these days. :)

Actually I have a 21 foot 220 hp stern drive that pops me right up (on two skis). And I have no doubt a C Dory 22 would work just fine, just not sure how much hp would be needed.

Lake Arrowhead in CA? My boss had a mansion on Lake Arrowhead.

I think I'm one of the few that has a Mercury 115hp 4-stroke EFI on the back of my C-22. I have it, because it came with the boat. And yes, amongst some others with 90's or twin 40's, I can outrun them...but not by much. And at the time, most of them were running heavier than I. What I'm trying to say is that I think the 90 is enough motor for the boat. I also kind of suspect that it is a bit lighter and easier on the fuel than the 115. However, if everything else stays the same, then that extra few mph might be worth it. One thing I see I forgot in my earlier reply, was the need for trim tabs. I think those rate pretty high on the list. Anything to keep the boat somewhat level makes for a more comfortable ride. Colby
