Don't know how good this picture will upload it was taken with a cell phone. If you notice the two white pvc pipes on either side of the boat and if you look closer you can see a winch. Poor guy launched his boat and trailer and he drifted about a mile from the ramp before my Buddy towed him back. In this picture he's in the middle of the ICW in a pretty congested area. I'm not sure how it happened my buddy just sent this picture to me plus a video of him towing him that I can't seem to upload.

You almost wonder if it was a "set up" or staged. Did he still have the stern strapped to the trailer (trailers tend to sink), how about the bow?

How does the coupler come off, after you have towed some distance to a ramp?

I expect he didn't have safety chains and the coupler wasn't latched don't really know but it wasn't staged there's another video on Facebook that shows the boat and trailer washed up in the marsh. I guess he had to have his straps on or the trailer would have seperated from the boat. The guy that made the video is a local crabber and just happened by and found the guy washed up in the marsh.

It may have come off the truck when he broke over the top of the ramp to back down. His usual routine may have been to get close to the water, then unhook the transom straps and bow from the trailer. He probably just had time to go for the boat as it rolled into the water........but then, what about the safety chains?
Maybe he thought somebody else....fishing buddy?......was latching the coupler and hooking up the chains etc..

Here's another shot of the boat in the marsh. The guy was by himself the other video I mentioned shows him pretty good but there's some pretty rough language in it. You can see the launch ramp in the background.

Let's see, with Journey On, if the plug is out, the boat sinks. Not true here? Or did he manage to get it in (so to speak)?

Also, why not start the engine and back it to the dock? If it's towable, I assume it was floating.

I hope it never happens to me.

I guess he got the plug back in. In the other video he says the plug was out when it launched itself. It's strange it drifted so far from the ramp before grounding itself in the marsh. There is a pretty strong current in the area. From what I gather it happened early in the morning so I don't think alcohol was involved. He did say he had pulled the boat from Mandarin suburb which is about 20 miles from the launch site. I guess he actually was lucky it came loose at the ramp rather than the highway.

I have a friend that performed a similar feat several years ago on a steep ramp in Charleston. It may be that he had a few "beer sodas" before launching or the ramp may have had too much algae or it may have been too steep but he managed to launch boat, trailer and vehicle. I don't think anyone managed to take pictures but there were a few red faces while waiting for a wrecker. :beer

I can take it one step further, if my memory serves!

Once had a story on this site related to a guy complaining about his limited top end and bad gas mileage, only to have someone point out to him that his trailer was still strapped on under his boat (!)

No, he wasn't a C-Brat, and if he would have been, I think we would have blackballed him and his Bayliner, too!

Joe.
