OLDER

here are two pictures that Tim (C-Chantey) sent me last night. the step ladder is only a few bucks and i was surprised to see how solid and sturdy it really was. a pretty good solution if you ask me.

he has those metal hooks on there that attach the ladder to the boat and its a strong snug fit. Its a good inexpensive alternative.

I have a cooler that's a bit higher than the built in step. I usually just drag it over to whichever side I want to step up on and use it. It's my fishing chair too.

thats actually what I use, i'm just afraid I'm going to break it eventually.

Good luck. I've got two 48 quart Igloos I've been using for step ladders since the mid 80's. I've had to replace the hinges and drains a few times but they still hold me up. The 96 quart Igloo bought in the mid 90's still holds me up too but it's just a teenager.

I think mine is a 70-something quart but maybe its the big 96. The part that has me concerned is it has one of those little hatches you open that happens to be about where I'd step in from starboard side. I try to avoid it and step on the beefier edges. :thup

Here's what I use, a Rubbermaid step stool.

Switchable to either side. and also works as a seat/stool, both in the cockpit and cabin.

Cheap, light, durable, and no custom building or installation.

With it's two steps, it works great to climb up on the gunnel.

The two steps are not on top of each other, but apart, and can be situated back a bit from the gunnel.

I like it better that having two tight steps along the cockpit wall face.

Works more like a real set of stairs, and less like a ladder! :wink

Ergonomics!

It feels very much better than a small ladder like structure, and you can even use it with both hands free, and don't feel compelled to hold on to the handle on the cabin wall, like the ladder structures.

Better for entering and leaving the boat with your hands full of stuff! You do bring "stuff" onboard and off, right?

Joe. :teeth :thup

I was looking through some "good idea" C-Dory photos I had filed last night when I ran across these steps made by Bruce of "Carpy." They look similar to Tony's on Cview.

(Just don't go to Carpy's improvements album without being warned: It can be "hazardous" because the mods are so nifty!)

Recently I received a message regarding information on the step that I made for my boat; C-Batical. Unfortunately, I must have inadvertently deleted the message before I could respond. If the fellow C-Brat who sent me the message originally would like to re-send it. I have some information to share.

Thanks,

Best regards,

That was me.....Dave of Raven Dancer. I was just wondering if you remember where you got that SS ladder at? Also the end pieces. I can't seem to locate the parts.
Thanks
Dave
