Older C Dory no window screens

We camped out last weekend on our 1988 C Dory at Alouette Lake BC
We had a lot of fun except for the bugs!

Our older window frames do not seem to have a track for a window screen to fit into. There is only one sliding track for the window itself to slide in and a half a track where the fixed window is. I could not fit a screen in the half track because the handle of the slider is in the way.

Anyway for this trip I just taped a screen on with painters tape. Does anyone with an older C Dory know what I am talking about? Did anyone come up with a solution for this?

my older 27 is the same way and I have not had to come up with a fix because we just dont have that many bugs here. But if I did i would make some screens that buttoned on to the windows using the two piece button screw heads. We did this for the privacy drapes on the 22.
 
There are several ways to resolve this issue. We use "no See EM" net, military surplus made to go over a large tent--$10. Enough screen material for several boats. Bridal veil material also works well. Or you can use the regular insect screen at the hardware store. We cut the net to the size, then hot glue velcro tape to the entire edge of the net, as well as the entire edge of the window are which needs to be covered. In our case this is the center opening window and fore deck hatch. I have done the same thing for a door, but with use 8 to 10 6" strips of velcro round the edges.

You can also make screens which are the size of the window, and then sew 2" of Sunbrella to match the interior around the outside. Then use the snaps which you use for the privacy curtains. No privacy curtains? Time to make the screens and curtains, to the same pattern. You have to stretch the screens fairly tight to get a good fit.

You could add a track on the inside, justing "U" channel for windows, , and epoxy or screw that in place over the existing interior window frame.
