That was salt water that caused the short.
 
I guess electric cars will start coming with the warning "Do Not Immerse in Water" across the dash now.

Same as your electric coffee pot.

OK, but what happens after the submersion in water? The next video after the above link shows a Tesla which has been under fresh water for 10 days--and the seals in the motor, inverter and transmission all leaked. We don't know what would happen to the car driven thru water in the next weeks or months. It only takes a little water to let the smoke out!
