North Pacific 28?

I believe that the North Pacific 28 has a cored hull. The plywood boat in the plans gives a weight of 11,000 lbs. Also note that the plywood kit is $15,800--not sure what all that includes--but if it includes epoxy, frames and hull and topsides plywood precut, this is a fairly good value. (of course a lot of work).

The vacuum bagging, with exotics, and cored materials, will definately make a much lighter boat. That boat hull could probably be made in the 2000 lb category with core/epoxy/exotics--but would cost in the range of 50K/ vs the 15.8 k for plywood. It will be interesting to see if they make a fiberglass hull kit. This would be a simple thing to do, since the boats are being made in plywood, and just pull a splash mold off a completed hull--same for deck, and cabin sides etc--or probably more economical for this boat, to just do plywood cabin sides and cabin top. Technically this is a very easy boat to build--but all are time consuming.

I say we just get it over with and buy everything from over seas. To hell with the big three, C-Dory, Boeing, GE, and any other company still foolish enough to try to survive here. It just is not worth it, so I say buy it. When you get done, make sure you outsource our engineers, doctors, and any one else that still have a decent job left in the country......I will now step down from my soapbox and the post is yours :)

You been reading my mind?

I agree it is a shame that it will be built overseas but most large boats are. I'm just glad to see more trailerable cruisers being built. I think more choices will bring more attention to this segment of boats and be good for people interested in them (me). With this boat and the Nordic Tug 26 being brought back I plan on attending a couple of boat shows this year.

The Nordic is small, but not all that trailerable. It's 9'6" wide, which will require a permit in every state. It also draws 3'3", which will usually mean a tongue extension of some kind is required if you want to launch the boat and not the truck.

Okay, I can't get anything else done, because I can't stop laughing. At least if they run into any kind of chronic problems with the production of this boat, at last we will have an opportunity for a literal application of the phrase "SNAFU"

Unlike the Ranger 25 which really has no competition in a trailerable boat - The only problem the Ranger 29 might have is competition. Boats like the Mainship 30 and Back Cove 29 and many others build hundreds of boats and therefore are very competitive in price.

I've owned both the Mainship 30 & 34 and even today they are unbeatable for the money - a lot of boat for the money. Perhaps Ranger can get a chunk of that market. Right now Trawlers are about the only boats that are still selling because of their economy in operation.

I saw the copulation malapropism and thought I'd compliment on it, but then thought I'd try to remain the pineapple of dignity by omitting postage on it, but then saw how much fun you all were having your way with it, so decided to drop a lineage or two on it, but then finally decided that those who were involved with the copulation of ideas were usually to busy to want to be bothered by other non-participles.

I was sitting in my office splitting a gut, I was laughing so hard tears were running down my face. Made me think of our soon to be former President's frequent problems with words...Bill on Noro Lim and I exchanged PMs, and then were both stunned at the thundering silence!
