The new 2012 Nordic Tug 26cr is featured on www.BoatTEST.com The cr stands for cruise ready, one thing that they have change is the Classic wooden doors. Now the doors are all glass like patio doors which i hate on any boat but i still want one. Tug

That may be the best review of a boat I've ever read. Lots of photos. Detailed descriptions.

I know our CD 25 is the boat for us now. Yesterday I took my son, his friend and our dog tubing. We even pulled one of them up on a wake board then fished in a quiet cove that evening. Soon we'll pull "My Girl" up to Maine to cruise Penobscot Bay.

Can't do all that in the dog gone Nordic Tug but my gosh she's purdy. :smilep

16 year old son. The dog only tubes or drives the boat so I can go tubing.

But how 'bout that Nordic Tug 26CR. Sometimes it seems like it might be a great retirement boat for me and the Admiral but I doubt it will ever happen. The up side being I've got a CD 25!!!

This was my tug, two boats ago. A Sundowner 32.

I looked at one of those Sundowner Tugs in the past. Lovely boat!

The Nordic Tug 26cr is a great looking boat, but I can certainly appreciate the simplicity of the C-Dory line.

H'mm. OK, it certainly is a great looking boat. It'd be a blast to cruise for a week.

Let me mention a few things:
-7 knt cruise. You're suddenly back in the sailboat days, 4 hrs to Catalina.
-4 miles/gal. And diesel is more expensive that gasoline, now. So at 7 knts it gets less mileage than a C-Dory 25.
-boat dry weight: 8500 lbs. So if you price it as a towable boat, include the big trailer and a 1 Ton truck. My 3/4 ton is only good for 11,000 lbs which that boat will exceed when you add the real cruising gear, trailer, supplies for a couple of weeks, you and significant other, etc.
-9'6" beam, which increases its form stability, etc. Wide load permit for towing.
-Metal/glass doors. Every mfg. is leaving wood behind, because their customers don't want exterior wood. And I agree.
-molded interior. Cheaper. Great decision since it's also better.

This is a different boat than a 25 C-Dory. The advantage of a C-Dory is it's weight, utility, planing speed and oh yes, price. Though 80K for a 25' boat isn't cheap in my book.

So, admire that Nordic Tug, but don't dare compare it to a C-Dory.

80k... maybe for a stripper model with no motors or trailer!

I specced out a 22, 23, 25, and 26 for Sportcraft last year.

With twin Honda 90s, bottom paint, bimini, fridge, wallas, standard head, radar arch, trailer, trim tabs, windlass, a couple of rocket launchers and a Garmin 7212, GMR18HD, and GSD22 it was nearly $130k for a Venture 26. A 25 Cruiser clocked in at just under $129k with an identical configuration. Note that both were specced to not include the vinyl liner.

A similarly specced Venture 23 with twin 60s clocked in at nearly $85k.

I think that is what a large portion of this community forget. These boats are no longer reasonably priced and affordable. I would have loved to have bought new, but the overall cost and subsequent depreciation hit is simply too high.

During this process, I also priced out a similarly equipped Wooldridge Aluminum boat and came in at almost identical pricing, but with larger motors and the durability of Aluminum (not going to get into electrolysis eating up boats/dissimilar metals conversation).

I love our Venture 26, I really do, but at the end of the day, I would be hard pressed to buy a new one at the prices they are asking for them. Judging from how busy the factory is though, it is clear that there are plenty of folks who feel differently.

I found a few used 26' & 30' Sundowner tugs on line in the $70K range. We are not looking to up-size but if we did, that'd be the direction we'd look.

Not sure about the Sundowner layout, but the Nordic 26 is a stairmaster's dream. Any place, berth, pilot house, salon, and cockpit requires going up or down a stair. Give me Ranger 25 or C-Dory 25 any day over the Nordic 26.

I am not sure why people bother to compare these two completely different styles of boats. I do like looking at the sun downer and other boats but I have no illusion that its a comparison to a cdory. I thinks its nice to look at and talk about other boats here and question the what ifs. If I was retired and had more time I would op for a bigger slower live aboard for the summers ( towing a fishing boat of course). If I had a winning lottery ticket I would buy a bigger faster 52 with even a better fishing boat. I think we can post other boats here with out the " it aint a cdory" reaction.

as for prices. I don't see how anyone can afford a new one today. we spent 45k on a new fully fitted 22 in 2005 and now they are almost double? I spent the same or a little less on the 27 and there is nothing on the market today with the room and speed for under 150k. I could never afford to replace it.

Yes, the Nordic 26 is built for bigger seas and longer distances than a C-Dory yet both are pilothouse boats. So kind of like comparing a one ton and a quarter ton pickup truck. :)

I bought my 2009 model in 2011. The 1st owner had fitted it out fairly basic. Twin 40 Yamis, Lowrance chart plotter and radio, Wallas, low radar arch, and Spotlight. I saw his bills and he was into it for just over 72k. Yep, we have great boats, but they sure ain't cheap.

Martin.
