After a couple of years of getting educated by reading this excellent site, we've purchased a C-Dory! My wife and I purchased Ron's 1990 22' Cruiser which he kept at Channel Islands Harbor in California. We picked it up and trailered it down to San Diego, rented a slip over the Labor Day Weekend and did some shake-down runs. Our son and daughter-in-law live in the San Diego area so we stayed with them until we got the boat organized enough to stay a couple of nights on board. Both the 75 hp and 9.9 hp HONDA's performed well during our test runs. The boat will be re-named C-VIEW.

Our 1990 C-Dory is well 'experienced' so we've got a number of projects underway. West Marine has a 10% discount for new boat owners and they have a Super Store in San Diego. That got us started, but there are more things to purchase and more projects to complete. I retire in December so I'm looking forward to having more time to do the more complex projects such as 3 drawers under the helm seat.

We trailered the boat back to Phoenix with no problems. The trailer is a single axle EZ loader trailer. We backed it into our RV garage and were able to move it by hand to the side and still get our motorhome inside.

So where does one use a C-Dory based in Phoenix? Lake Pleasant is only 24 miles from our house. We keep our 1980 Montgomery 23 sailboat there. Most of our trips to Lake Pleasant will be on the sailboat and with our Lake Pleasant Sailing Club. But there are a number of other boating destinations where trailering is involved and it will be easier to take the C-Dory rather than the sailboat. There is Bartlett Lake (40miles), Saguaro Lake (45 miles), Canyon Lake, Lake Havasu, Lake Mohave, Lake Powell. We occasionally trailer to California and go to Catalina Island. We suspect the power boat will be an advantage as we can do the crossing in the morning before the wind and waves pick up and get a mooring while they are still available. My big plan in retirement is to visit the Pacific Northwest and cruise the San Juan Islands.

One project that has become apparent to us - we need to add an opening center front window. It is a little warm in Phoenix and the air flow will be much appreciated. Any advice on how to accomplish this will be appreciated.

Tony,

Welcome to the C-Brat family. Glad to have you here. You may already know that there are several C-Brats who have been or are currently Montgomery owners as well, (M-15 #348 is in our garage still. ) There was a time when we were trying to figure how to get into a M-23 and we still look at the Lyle Hess designs with a bit of drool.

You will find the group here extremely helpful, knowledgable and friendly. We're from that upper left corner, and it's a great place to spend time on the water. Come on up, you are welcome anytime.

Enjoy,

Harvey

Welcome C-View,

We are sorry to see Ron sell, but know that he has been looking for a larger boat for a few years now.
You have a nice boat in the old Islander, she was a storage yard mate to our boat.
Have fun and enjoy your "new" boat.

Tony,
You're just a days drive on a good, mostly divided hiway to Guaymas, Sonora Mexico. The water north toward Hermosillo is beautiful. Beaches, cliffs, Palm trees and cacti growing out of the cliffs over the water. November thru March the wind can come up at mid day and last till four. Most always from 290 to 310 degrees NW. Lots of coves on the lee side to hang for the day. San Pedro Island ( I think that's the correct spelling) and the islands west of Hermosillo, are good Yellow Fin Tuna fishing, also grouper and other bottom fish. I'm not sure what type marina or services are available at Hermosillo. Last time I was in San Carlos there was a CD 22 and I believe the owner is a C-Brat.
Good luck and welcome aboard.

Welcome Tony!

As for the center window, several on this site have done that, try the search function. I don't think it's a very tough mod, just carefully remove the screws (I think they take a special square head driver) and pry the molding off. It may be a little tough, depending on how well it was bonded in the first place. You can get a new window either from C-Dory itself or from Diamond Sea-Glaze who makes them. I would think that the current windows would fit just fine.

I'm sure someone who has done the mod will chime in. I agree that having the ability to open that window is great to have.

Here's a LINK to someone who did it, you might e-mail, PM or call him.

Again, welcome to C-Brats!

WOW, news to us, ours opened and I guess we thought that all of them opened. Sure would not want to be without the flow through air it provides when it is latched in the barely open position, which is most of the time. It gets latched closed when the waves get rowdy.
