Here's a pic of my newly installed washdown pump. It consists of a 3/4" bronze tailpiece and seacock, Shurflo Extreme ProBlaster pump, and 50' hosecoil and storage tray made from Schedule 40 PVC pipe. I should really be able to blast away the fish guts with this baby! I really considered a couple of other options rather than to drill another hole below the waterline, but I finally concluded this was the most straightforward route.

Very cool, I have a washdown on my new CD as well, essential for salmon fishing in my mind. My wife almost fell overboard once trying to get to the rod holder to fight a king as she slipped on some fish slime from the king we just landed Now I wash down after most fish to be safe. I had mine tied into the freshwater system, instead of going with a raw water wash. I've had both and I liked the fresh water a little better, but then I don't use the freshwater for much else so... Raw water is nice because even on those long trips you wont run out. But I did have the intake get plugged once. Nice job!!

I think I need to install this on the Hammerhead, do you have a rear bildge pump as well?
 
Thanks, guys. The PVC storage tray cost me about $7; ready-made ones, for some reason, are over $100!

No, I don't have an aft bilge pump. I thought about putting one in, but they take up a fair amount of valuable space. I love that area between the tanks, for extra gas, etc., and hate to junk it up too much. I was happy to be able to put the seacock hard against the port tank, as it uses up almost no space.

Ingteresting point about the cost of the tray, $7 homemade, $100 for store bought!

They use a small (computer power supply) fan to aid in heat distribution in propane stoves. You can buy it for $2-3 in surplus stores, $5 at Radio Shack, or $72.95 at WM. Caveat Emptor!

Al's been keeping me updated on this project offline. I, too, love the hose storage. I didn't even notice it for a moment, it's so neat and tidy. Very clean installation. I'm going to try to figure out a way of doing a mod on my livewell that will allow me to have a washdown system, too, using the same pump.

I wanted to keep the working area in the cockpit clear. This shot shows where the washdown (Johnson 3.4 GPM) is located - above the starboard fuel tank, bolted through the bottom of the lazzerette. (The pump is ignition protected...)

All the output piping runs from the pump up and along the bow wall of the lazzerette. The input comes in from aft where the intake/screen is located vertically through the hull at the bilge depression. The washdown hose even fits into this space!

BTW, good to see Moose's pump is mounting motor side up - very important for vertical installs!

These washdown set ups are great!
 
Just a quick follow up to my earlier post.

This winter (like an idiot) I left the washdown pump described above (Johnson WPS 3.4) charged and during a cold snap the outer plastic head cracked. So began the sad saga of finding spare parts. I got in touch with Johnson's national sales manager who referred me to several places for parts: Worst Marine (no thanks...), Fisheries Supply (yes), Land and Sea (no reply). Fisheries supply wanted $130 for the "pump head kit" which contains the cover part I need. A new pump is $110. Hmmm. Johnson's national sales manager seems to find this pricing strategy acceptable. $50-75 would have been a rake but understandible.

Am going to install a different brand pump - and check and make sure parts are available at a reasonable cost... Just FYI. Too bad too - I thought the Johnson performed well.
 
ok this is one project I have left to complete. can you tell me what through hull connection you used? fittings? switch and connectors. I have the pump but need to get the rest together and get er done.

The thru hull is a seacock. I prefer brass/bronze. Make sure it has a ball valve so you can shut it off if needed. Be sure you ground it to your negative bus bar or negative battery terminal. (Most come with the screw to connect this) Mine was factory mounted about 4 inches from the transom on the centerline.

Get a good quality hose-not the crap they sell at Home Depot. A marine sanitation hose (without internal wires) is best. Use stainless clamps - again good quality (aka non Home Depot). All other fittings come with the pump.

Use a standard 12 V switch of your choice. Mount it where it won't get bumped. Epoxy all connections.
