New top for the Katie Kat.

I recently had a new top made for our Tomcat by the folks at "Pro Welders" in Sopchoppy Florida. The Boat was getting a fuel tank replaced by the guys at Wefing, and Marc Grove thought "Pro Welders" would be able to help out.
Those of you who have been around, will notice a similarity to the top on "Molly Brown" and thats where I got the idea. "Byrdman" said he had heard that the "hat bill" might want to be a little longer, and Marc Grove suggested combining the Radar arch and rod holders into a short legged T-top frame. The people at Pro Welders did the rest.
I've been wanting to try the Planer boards that the guys on the great lakes use, here on the Gulf. Pro welders made some removable mast also. The Reels are from Big Jon, as are the Otter boats.
Pics are in the album.

Nice additon. A Florida special. Big Jon plant is about 45 miles from me and they make good stuff. Let me know if you ever need parts. Can you use the rack as storage if not hauling rods? Presume the radar will go forward? And file the idea away of adding solar panels on that brim. Good job.

Regards,

Hey Gordon!! Those look great! Wish we could have hooked up when I was down south...maybe next round. I will be headed back down to Wefin's in about a week or two to sea trial C-Byrd after her retro work. We are planing a Gathering on the weekend of 20-22Oct06 in the Eastpoint, FL area. Should be a blast and a prelimanary site RECON has provided a great cruising area...and a great facility too....with no dock charges, a great pavilion and grill... and two very large natural sand beaches about 1/4 mile up and down river from the area. Then, just very short run.....out thru the bay...and blue water is just waiting.

Send me your cell phone in a PM and I'll give ya a shout as my time back down to Eastpoint gets more "nailed down."

I love the covers and that should be great help too.

There is an area, just forward of the rod holders and aft of the Radar arch that will accommodate overhead storage. I had considered it a good location to store the Otter boats when their not in the water. I'll see if I can find a better pic.
I hadn't considered solar panels on the hat bill but will, thanks for the idea. :thup
I'm quite pleased with the quality of the Big Jon reels and boats. I chose the boats over something made of wood, because of the size and they are 90% plastic so it should reduce the wear and tear on the cat. I don't plan on pulling more than one or two lines per side. They are more of a poor mans outrigger for me.

I'll put a circle around those days on the calender. We'll have to see how our schedules go work wise. I suffered a couple of set backs on the project I'm on, and there will have to be some catch up before long.
I'll send you my cell#.
Thanks for mentioning that James on the "Molly Brown" thought longer would be better. I wouldn't have stretched it out as far as I did, without your input.
