Just an update to everyone. The wife and I on Thursday left for a twenty hour trek and came back home with our new to us Dory, Sweetpea. Any Dorys out on the Chesapeake are more than welcome to stop by to say hello, we have lots of dock space!

Should anyone want to chime in I do have a question for anyone running an Etc. I was on the water for the first time and was only able to achieve about 3300 rmps Max. After dining some research it appears the 90 Etecs should top out about 5200 rpms.? Can you confirm and what has been your top speed?

Looking for word to seeing everyone!!

I just repowered our "new to us" 1993 22 cruiser with a new 90 E-Tec. At WOT it goes up to 5000 rpm. Our top speed has been about 29 mph, although we have not had many opportunities to open her up on flat water.

It runs great, is super quiet and has a 5 yr/ 1000 hr warranty.

The only downside is that I have been averaging 3.25 mpg. I had visions of 5 mpg, but I guess a little over 3 isn't bad when I am fully loaded and spend the bulk of the time in choppy open ocean waters.

That was my normal cruising RPM. It should open up much more. I only openned it up once and not WOT. I never had any problems with speed and the motor checked out fine with the last service. Don't know what to tell you. Happy Cruising.

what prop are you running on the etec? I am getting ready to put 90 on my 22' but I have propped one other one on an olympic boat. I ended up having to drop to a 13.25x15 to hit 5k mark not the 17 that comes standard on them. you want to hit at least 5k-5200 that way you know you are propped right for the whole rpm range. over ppropped puts unwanted stress on the motor and if you cannot clear 3500 I would not be running around on it till you figure out why thats all you can get. my .02

2009 E Tec 90 13.75x13 OEM prop with permatrim, engine mounted to transom through 2nd hole . Operates at 5500 rpm , 31 mph (in flat calm).Engine programed for xd 100. I also installed a OEM trim gauge. The three Yr /300 hr service conducted in April 2012 with 240 hrs on engine. Three seasons with no problems ,I use a 1000 cca excide battery ,engine didn' t like my original 600 cca battery. Ive had the permatrim for one season. The difference is 15 mph on plane thru chop with less slamming. Before the permatrim we would wallow along at 8 mph. In a following sea the permatrim allows for a steady course avoiding most bow steering white knuckle moments and back sliding discomfort. A tank of xd 100 oil lasts approx 50 hrs. In general So far so good three more yrs on the warranty.

Lesson learned, when you buy a used boat, best to have the fuel drained and add new fresh fuel. Two injectors later we should be a the road again. Bad fuel = $$ being spent. It never occurred to me this could happen in just one tank. I burn through a fair amount when I am enjoying the boat so I though burn it and add fresh fuel, my mistake, and this wasn' t a case of me being cheap either... :sad Just didn't occur to me it could foul the injectors that quickly. :sad :sad One full boat unit. :cry I guess I'll just have to wait for the new GPS longer... :cry :cry :cry

So here is a list of new items added or replaced,
New complete anchor, delta package
New bilge pump
New chipset
All new canvas interior as there was a leak caused mold. :cry
Hoping I won't need a new hatch, just reseal
Drilling a drain in the locker never had one installed, you should have seen the water I took out of the locker....
New finspry water pump
New port and starboard lights
I'll add a Webasto heater this fall for year round use with automatic wipers
I am looking for word to finally finishing these details so we can head out and enjoy her finally.

Would like too see your pictures of the locker drain, as my dory does not have one as well and am looking at different options for this.
