New Suzuki Models

This may be old news but I just stumbled across it on the Hull Truth site. Suzuki is coming out with a new model line for 2009. There will be new 70, 80 and 90 models. The new model is said to be lighter and physically smaller than the current 90. The draw back is they will have a 30 amp alternator rather than the current 40 amp. It doesn't say how much of this will be useful amperage. They are also coming out with a new 100 HP model. This may be of interest for anyone considering a repower.

I loved my suzi 90 on my Duck sorry to see that eng go .

From what I heard at one of the fl. Boat shows That Suzuki 100 is very similar to the old suzi 90 and 115 . just relabeled. On the 90 the max rpm was 5000-5500 on the 115 it was 5500-6000 My Suzi90 would go to 5800 no problem it was a strong eng bigger gearcase larger prop . I dont know why anyone would go with another brand . I guess it could be a Ford ,Dodge,,and Chevy debate

One reason, although I did not plan it this way, is that Roger on Dreamer tells me that Yamaha is much more popular in the Broughtons because of poor Honda service. Dunno about Suzuki. Of course, there undoubtedly are other areas where the Yamaha support is poor. But I do see more Yamahas in the Gulf Islands than other brands -- not a scientific sample.

I second that jennykatz. I love our suzi 90 as well. Unlike some other areas, we have lots of dealers in the Seattle area who can service our motor.

Its another case of a motor company replacing its older designs . The 60-70 Suzuki was their first 4 stroke , a ground breaking motor with the offset power head, beltless chain driven timing and EFI but is pretty heavy by todays standards at over 360 Lbs . But they are not replacing , they are adding a platform as they say in the motor trade . The 70-80-90 will weigh around 340 and the old 90- 115 will become a 100 -115. The 140 has always had slightly wider pistons and an oil cooler but is the same platform as the 90-115. I am not sure if they will keep the 60 , but it makes a great work boat and Pontoon boat motor . They are all great motors . I have not had a chance to play with the new ones yet , but I hear they have continued Suzukis legacy of very good outboard motors. If I can get my hands one one for the gathering in Oct I will .

I've been very happy with my Suzuki all though I haven't had it that long. I purchased it based on Marc's recommendation and the fact that nearly all the commercial guys (mostly crabbers and dock builders) in my area are now running them.

Interesting vertical heigth on the 90s... 58 1/2 inches... Humm... I think I can see some type of polling platforms on the CD22s with a Honda 2,000 gen set mounted up there... AC on the move anyone?

Speaking to a Yamaha tech-y at their factory, he indicated that that for a "basic rule of thumb..." you can figure that about 5 amps per motor go to drive the motor and make the EFI and gizmos work. For these motors, that would give a 25 amp re-charge. Those will very little electrical demands (no inverters...running our coffee pots, crock pots, microwaves...) that should be fine for the minimal re-build needed for the quick starting of the motors. Those of us who like and use all the gizmos... well...the need for that gen pops back into the picture....with all the mental games of how to kicking in again. Fun..fun.
