If we critlcize Obama, will we be called racist? C-Otter :|

I would say that it depends on the nature and the spirit of the criticism. I'm sure that President Obama is not going to please me all of the time, but that has nothing to do with what race he is or isn't.

Personally, I believe the man is going to prove to be a fantastic leader.

You know, I would say that running a country isn't the same as running an insurance agency, though the mortgage insurance agency seems to have been run a little unusual. Nor is it the same as producing cars, or running a finance business. In running a country, your focus should be on doing the best for the country, now and in the future. We can only pray that is the purpose of our new president and he factors in all the country not a special segment. This includes business, international relations and of course the people.

Yesterday we saw an American who was born in poverty with hard work and commitment rise to the highest office in the land for that matter some would say in the world. Regardless of who you supported this is truly the American Dream. It shows me that in this great country anything can be accomplished and I have high hopes that with our new Presidents background of accomplishments he will rise to the occasion and put our country back on track.

A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
Thomas Jefferson

I believe that in 4 years my taxes will be up, my freedoms reduced and
nothing much will have changed including the members of Congress.

That is unless we have a black swan event which is also very possible. In that case a lot of things will change including the members of Congress.

It doesn't matter who I voted for... we have a new President and, until proven differently, he has my respect. While my personal opinion is that President Obama has little governing experience, I hope he will grow into the position... quickly. Why anyone would seek the position is beyond me, and I think the job is beyond the capabilities of any one man. That person will simply have to do the best they can. For the good of all of us, I hope our new President is able to inspire confidence and the desire to improve. Our economy will improve because the American public does what's necessary, not by the actions of one person. The government should be in the business of protecting, educating, making laws, and infrastructure. The rest of us will have to step up to take care of BUSINESS.

I think this President faces the most trying situation of any President in my lifetime. If he is not successful, we are all in dire straits.

A small correction, we have just seen history made, but not of a president born in poverty. Poverty was never an issue, as evidenced by his attending the 5th grade through graduation at Punahou College Prepatory School in Honolulu, Hawaii. The tuition is not chump change.

Aside from that, lets hope that our country and economy will rebound and thrive. Hope....... that's the best thing to hang your hat on.

Below are my sentiments as stated to my daughter who's finishing grad school at UW. As for racism, it's alive and well. I've received several humorous but racist emails from colleagues in the last couple of days. I feel free to criticize every politician regardless of color, whether I voted for them or not. I do know that racism is still alive and well, but this old white guy is going to try not to participate in it regarding our new president.

Hi Annie,
I'm sitting in the Seattle airport this morning waiting for the flight back to Yakima. I was thinking about you and this historic day.

I believe it is a historic day that you will look back on in your life. For me it ranks up there in my history with the days when we put a man on the moon and when we left Viet Nam. We usually only see a few watershed events in our lifetime.

I don't know if Barack Obama will be a successful president or not. Only time and history can judge that. I do know that he will make mistakes and decisions that I don't agree with. However he does signal the end of one era and the beginning of another.

This new era has a great deal of uncertainty and risk about it, and no one knows how this economic crisis will play out. I do know that I have a great deal of confidence in your ability to manage it. I also have a lot of belief in endurance and perseverance as success strategies. So stay on your path, finish this step and look forward to the start of this new era and the next stage in your life.
Love,
Dad

However, I do feel a lot safer now that he is going to release all the terrorist from Guantánamo. When released, I'm sure they will also be able to stimulate the economy.
