New Power and New Heat

I just picked up Island Flyer yesterday and had the pleasure of making a 70 mile run with a new Mercury 90 hp 4 stroke and Lenco 12x12 trim tabs. What a difference from the Johnson 70 that was on the boat before. Those trim tabs are amazing how they smooth out the ride, a little chop, a little nose down really makes a difference. Trimmed out at 5400 rpm (Aluminum 3 blade 13 3/4 x17) she peaked at 33kts (photos in Island Flyer photo album).

I also just installed a Wallas 125 stove and find that the lid vibrates when running. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to hold the lid down more tightly? A strap or a latch were some thoughts I had. Thanks in advance.

Hi Rhys,
I saw your boat at Twin Bridges Friday sorry I missed you. Glad to hear that the repower is working for you. I am also glad to hear that the tabs are working.
As far as the lid vibrating I would guess at 33 knots everything would shake. Only kidding, I havn't heard of this problem, are you sure the cabinet is secure. It may be the be causing the vibration.

Glad to hear your Merc is an improvement. I have also been very pleased with the 90 4-stroke. Quiet and can be trimmed up to the degree that kayakers were shocked when I took it up the full length of the Weeki Wachee River in FL. There's no wrong choice for a motor nowadays, but this one will operate extremely shallow.

Hi, rhys,

I think the 125 and the 95 are basically the same unit, with some minor internal exceptions such as fuel pump feed tubes.

The lid on my 95 DU sits tight, and doesn't rattle. It has a couple of polymer bumpers that keep it from rattling.

Is it your stove cover, or could it be the starboard window?
Those things rattle like crazy, at least in my '99 Cruiser.

Ken
