New pictures of the hardtop joint on the Cdory

Had somebody ask a while back about the hardtop joint, and how it was affixed. I have nested in another album in the factory picture section that shows the interior joint prior to glassing and after glassing. Let me know if you have any questions after you have looked them over. This is how we do all the hardtops joints on all models.

Also, Happy New Year to all the Cbrats, let us all take a little time to reflect on this past year and the blessings that have been bestowed upon us. I for one, am very thankful for all of your input here on the Cbrats website, and collectively we here at Triton Marine are very excited about this upcoming year and watching the resurgence of the Cdory brand back into the forefront of the Pilothouse market. So, Scott, a few questions:

-Once that is completed is it a matter of feathering the joint, then spraying on the interior color?
-Also, is the black that shows the sealer? I know some boats did not have the exterior joint sealed, although ours has a black caulk line that is quite obvious.
-Is the deck to hull joint done the same?
 
Thanks for the questions, and I will answer them below in the order asked:

1) Yes we will grind down the seam and make sure all is smooth, then we come in with the final basecoat.
2) The black that is showing is just gelcoat, we paint the underside of the exterior of the hardtop black, and match with a black top stripe on the deck. We finish this off by using black caulk to seal the entire exterior joint.
3) Yes the entire deck to hull seam is done exactly the same way, on the inside, the exterior seam is filled with Loctite, then the rubrail is secured, and finally we silicone seal the top and bottom of the rubrail.

Thanks for sharing your mfg techniques. They fascinate me.

I notice you cut the windows out. What tool do you use to make that cut and what do you use to guide it? I assume it's not free hand.

Loctite? :? I use Loctite brand thread lock, but I'm confused w/ this. Can you clarify. Just curious, actually, since my boat is an '07; I have no idea if it's built the same or not.
 
I had trouble finding these photos: Go to the like of Triton Marine photos, and up in the right corner there is a link to factory C Dory albums. Click on that, it it takes you to a number of great photos.

In our Tom Cat, there was no black caulking and this left the cored aft bulkhead end grain balsa exposed. We pumped black caulk into the void between the cabin top and side walls.

Also these photos show that windows are cut out after the boat is out of the mold. I surveyed a boat (some other brand) a couple of weeks ago, and the owner thought that windows and any thru hull holes were molded in, not cut out after the boat was pulled from the mold. All of these photos really are a great service by the builder to the owners so that they can understand the boats better.
