New Owner of CD 22 Cruiser

My daughter and I picked up our new CD 22 Cruiser last Thursday from EQ Marine in Oak Harbor. The following is a "brief" description of the transaction:

In early July, I took my wife down to Cornet Bay to look at my choice, an Arima 19 Sea Ranger. While going over the boat I noticed she kept glancing down to the end of the line at a beautiful blue C-Dory. I had not considered this boat thinking it was out of our reach, but that didn't deter her.

The following weekend I showed up at EQ an hour before closing time. Les Lampman then spent two hours with me discussing various topics and items of consideration. After the seminar all it took was a simple handshake for him to remove the boat from available inventory.

A week later Les informed me that he was going into hiding in order to get Patrick's Rosborough rigged. He then introduced me to Kathy Kranig who would work with me on my boat. Kathy had some additional items for me to consider such as my choice for an autopilot and a windlass. When I left it was about an hour after closing time again!

The rigging began in August and the boat was ready a month later. During this time I endured all the comments regarding the QC issues and the "status change". I was not worried in the least and confident my boat would be delivered free of defects and that EQ would continue to service the boat, regardless of their status with C-Dory.

The sea trial with Les was quite an experience! I haven't trailered a boat in over 20 years so I was a little nervous backing down the ramp. After Les told me to turn to the "other" left, he then told me to follow the boat. When he told me to stop, I was no more than a few inches from the dock with the entire trailer submerged! After an hour or so on the water, my daughter found her way back to the dock and then turned the helm over to Les. I've read the discussions about crab-walking a twin engine boat but did not think it could be done with a single engine. Les proved otherwise as he got the boat perfectly parallel with the fenders kissing the dock! He then had me go get the trailer and had my daughter drive the boat up, something I was extremely nervous about doing myself. She handled it perfectly. By the time we got home, it was pitch dark and pouring rain. I backed the boat into the driveway and was amazed at how easy it is to trailer. The weather has turned for the worse but hope to get on the water later this week.

Thanks to the entire EQ team for the quality craftmanship and outstanding customer service! Thanks also to C-Dory for producing the perfect boat for our use here in the PNW.

A great tale pdoe and welcome to the fold. Not at all surprising to any of us that EQ and Les treated you right! You've joined a great group, I hope to meet you at SBS 08!

Welcome aboard. Nice boat, nice experience (no surprise), and nice name. If you get to the Great Lakes look me up. I'll buy at the Blue Heron restaurant in town.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for sharing, pdoe. 'Looks like you made some good decisions there. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy that C-Dory 22 cabin alot of there. You all have such a beautiful, interesting cruising area to explore!

Welcome from some fellow Widbey Islanders and another bird-boat name.
Hope to see you around. (It's not as if we have 10 million launch ramps!!)

Welcome and congrats on the new boat. Thanks for the story about EQ. We all know Les is a standup guy and he and Kathy do a great job of making sure their clients are treated right, AND their boats will be set up to match the needs of the owner AND done right.

Welcome aboard. It is a pretty great family. We aren't all that far away, and hope to cross wakes some where on the tides.

Congratulations from us as well. I have been aboard your boat, and had actually agreed to purchase her before switching to an angler Les had stashed away for himself and Dusty. Yours is a beauty, and I would've been proud to own her. My experiences at EQ were very similar and include the following: I asked, and Les agreed, to sell me their used "yard" trailer at a steep discount. A few weeks ago I changed my mind and asked Kathy if they would consider taking the used trailer back in trade on a brand new model. She agreed, and gave me full credit for what I'd paid her for the used trailer. Talk about accommodating businesspeople! I truly hope they are able to continue to represent the C-Dory line or at least sell some of the models. Anyways, best of luck and hope to cross paths in the future. Mike.

I like what Al, of C-Gypsy, says on another thread,
" it does not get any better, and yet it gets better every time you spend time on the water. "
Perhaps that is the C-Dory 'Black Swan'.
A hearty welcome.

pdoe - welcome aboard. Glad to have you as a member to this group.

You could not have made three wiser choices.
1. Chose a C-Dory
2. Chose EQ Marine as your boat dealer
3. Joined this site

Someday I hope to cross wakes with you on Puget Sound.
