New Owner in Portland

Hello! I've been following all of your exciting adventures for some time now and finally was able to fulfill my C-Dory dream this week. :love Lucky me... I adopted a 2008 22 Cruiser from someone who took very good care of it.

Would love to hear from folks in the Portland area with tips about local cruising, good dry winter storage places, and anything else you'd like to offer. Puget Sound and the San Juans is also on our short list, so I'll be following those posts closely.

I'd especially like to hear from other women cruisers anywhere who are enjoying their C-Dories and having big and small adventures.

Thanks to you all for your wonderful website. Such a fount of knowledge here! Glad to be an official C-D owner card-carrying member!

p.s. for anyone who's interested why I christened the new boat "Honu"... on a snorkeling trip to Hawaii a couple of years ago, I happened upon a sea turtle swimming ever so slowly under water, putting very little energy into her efficient strokes. I followed her carefully for awhile and came away with a message: enjoy life! I returned home, promptly quit my hectic job and made plans to get off the treadmill. Buying the C-Dory is a big, happy step in that story.

Hi and Congratulations Kathleen! Your going to gave a great time with your CD. Now if you want someone to to help you with a test ride. I will be in Bonneville from the 9/12 to 9/17 :) :)

Aloha and welcome. I obviously love the name you chose for your boat. 8)

There are some great cruising spots up here and I've just scratched the surface myself. I live/cruise [primarily] up in the N Sound but my son & his family live in Vancouver, so some day I'm going to cruise the Columbia/Portland area.

You should look into next year's CBGTs, once they are planned. Numerous opportunities to meet follow C-Brats and pick their brains. I've been to two and both were fantastic.

Kathleen: Welcome and great to hear of your boat purchase. Now, not a lady who cruises... but my sister-in-law Brenda ("B") spends much time on their CD22 GYPSY. Next time I speak with her I will make mention of your post. Just leaving Charleston Harbor for today's travel south, and GYPSY is "way up river" on the Cumberland River, beyound the Celina bridge which is the end of the "navigable water miles" of the Cumberland...or, where they stop the dredging for barge traffic. Cell phone coverage is like deep water in that area....there simply aint much of it. Think they will be out for a week this time... ish.
They put between 400-600 engine hours a year on GYPSY....so for sure she travels and enjoys the boat.

Contgrats again...and hope to meet some day at some C-Brat event.

Welcome Kathleen! Congratulations on the purchase of your C-Dory. You are going to love it.
There are a few woman C-Dory owners, and it is great to have another join the group.
I keep my boat in the water all year and enjoy the winter as much as the summer months. I think a good type of winter storage is dry type storage, where the boat is launched and retrieved for you at short notice. Not sure if there are any of these in your area, but it might be worth looking into. Your weather tends to be colder than southern Puget Sound, so inside storage would be nice.If you enjoy other types of activities in the winter, it is cheaper to have the boat winterized, to protect systems from freezing, and then put under cover.
Come on up to the Seattle Boat Show gathering in January, and maybe we can work in a boat ride.

Hi Kathleen,

I'm not really from Portland but have been and am there frequently (family) and it's only 4 hours. So....
Welcome to the C-Brats, a really neat group of "just be nice" people from all walks and stages of life with a special interest in the same boats and their uses, (fishing, cruising and the available variations.) You will have a chance to learn, enjoy, share, and become friends here.

Congratulations on the new boat, enjoy and hope we get to cross wakes sometime.

Now, I'm going to up the anti some. Pat and Robbi suggested you come up to the Seattle Boat Show (SBS) C-Brat Get Together (CBGT). Good idea, and you don't have to wait that long. The Sequim Bay State Park 09 CBGT is coming up now. This weekend, (Sept 11-13), just a mere 3hour & 55 minute drive up I-5 to Olympia then N on 101 at Olympia to Sequim Bay State Park. There will be close to a dozen (+/-) C-Dorys, and a whole bunch of really happy folks there.

Come on up and enjoy. We would love to have you and you will get to enjoy a good time and meet some new friends.

And, we have a promise of 100% weather (which is looking like it should be good,) See you this weekend.

How great that you have a C-Dory now! This is a great group!!

I look forward to meeting you and hopefully boating together. I travel with my lab, and am still a rookie power boater.

Following up on Robbi's post I keep my boat in dry storage and it works great for me. I can have the boat dropped in the water year round 6 days a week with 30 minutes notice. It works great for me.

Welcome aboard :!:

Kathleen,

I believe there is dry storage on Tomahawk Island. I keep my boat in the water year-round at Tomahawk Island Marina (and have for 7 years). PM me for any advice you need on moorage.

Thanks, everybody, for the nice welcome! I'll look forward to seeing you on the water and will try to make some of the get-togethers. Sounds like a great time! I'll have to miss this weekend due to work, but will check out the schedule for future events and plan ahead.

I appreciate your help in finding places to moor/store the boat. Looks like I'll have to get on the phone and start calling a few places.

I'll post some pictures as soon as my album is ready. :photo Enjoyed all of yours!

Regards,

Thanks for sharing the photos. She's a nice looking C-Dory.

Sure like the looks of the helm seat. Is there a manufacturers name and or other information on it? Would love to find out. Thanks.

Welcome to the group. Robbi will be a great contact for you - especially if you fly fish (or perhaps want to learn to).

I too noticed the nice looking helm seat. Given that I intend to replace mine, I'd be interested in the manufacturer/model info.

Robbi and Roger,

I'll look for information to share on that seat. The previous owner put it in and it is comfy! I'll post the info as soon as I have a chance.
