New option for folks who ONLY have cell phones

Off the landline grid? Check out the "AT&T TL92278 DECT 6.0 Bluetooth Digital Expandable Dual-Handset Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering System." It’s a viable option for people who are off the landline systems and using cell exclusively. Not a bad option for folks who have both, either.

I have both cell and landline, but with mom in Hospice now, and my cell as their primary contact number, leaving the cell phone in my pants at night was a recipe for panic attacks. A late night call means leaping from bed, rushing to the phone, digging the phone out and usually losing the race. The bluetooth AND wired multi handset phone solved that problem nicely. I can also make outgoing calls from any of the ATT handsets and it has distinctive rings when it's hooked up to both my home copper line phone and the cell. Soon as I get within bluetooth range of the base device, it automatically connects.

No, I don't have any connection with, or even like AT&T, but I am too damn old to be leaping out of bed at night or always remembering to put my cell phone next to my bed. I'm a little like Seawolf Joe in that respect. Oh, and I also use Ooma and if anybody wants an unbiased opinion, just let me know.

I haven't used this bluetooth version--which sounds like a great idea if it works with the cell phone. But we have had the 6 gHz system in our house for about a year, and it is far superior to both the 2.8 and 5.8 gHz, in that it does not interfere with the WiFi, and we find that the range is considerably more. I can be out on the dock or in the RV and have perfect reception.
 
Here are the features of this setup. I am kind of stupid, reading this I don't see how it works in a cell-only environment...but I assume that it connects via Bluetooth to, say, my Blackberry, and then you can make calls from this handset through the Blackberry wireless connection, correct?

It connects to a cell phone via bluetooth and the user dials out from the Dect 6.0 handset instead of the cell phone. Very similar to high end in-car built in blue tooth devices, there is no need to touch the blackberry. In turn, ALL handsets act just like they would if the system was connected to a landline instead of a cell phone. If you also have a land line, the ability to choose which "line" to use is there for making calls. For me, it also means my big fat fingers make fewer mistakes dialing out than with a tiny cell phone keypad.

I'm still not clear as to which answering machine is used, but I suspect only the cell phone voicemail is used in an all-cell environment though I also believe all handsets show there is voicemail available.

I agree with Doc. Dect 6.0 really is superior to earlier handsets.
