Hi All, I pick up Mango (ex Red-C) my arrest-me-red 2006 C-16 Cruiser July10 in Port Alberni, B.C. Sea trials last week went well on Sproat Lake, which is 10 minutes out of Port Alberni. We plan to spend six months in Port Alberni each year and six months in Austin, Texas. We plan to launch Mango frequently on lakes between Port Alberni and Austin. I've enjoyed the C-Brat website immensely both for the helpful information and for the occasional moderate irreverence. I'll post pictures as soon as I learn how. Our postal code in Port Alberni is V9Y 2S4, and I'll pass that along to the moderators as soon as I figure out how to do that. The registration form only accepts five-digit U.S. Zip Codes. Bruce

Congrats. Also welcome to the ever expanding Vancouver Island Brats club

Hi Mangobob
Port Alberni was my home town for over 10 years. I built the grey house on the hill on Faber rd just past Dickson Dr. and raised my family there.

Port Alberni is a great place for boating both on the lake and the inlet.
I didnt have the C Dory in those years--too busy raising kids.

Wish you the best! We still have many friends living there.

Hi Mangobob,

I lived in Port Alberni when I was in 3rd grade. I remember the fog, and the saw mill and living on the last road in town and behind our house went straight up the mountain. I rode my bike to school there and got lost in the fog one time. An RCMP officer put my bike in the back of his car and drove me home. Our landlord, who lived up stairs and was a commercial fisherman would bring fish home for my folks. I liked the salmon, the herring...ah not so much.

Have been back a couple of times, but not on my own boat ....yet.

Sounds like you have good plans for the new 16. You will enjoy it for sure.

Welcome to another Island 16'r. Cabernet as well if the past name is any indication. You will enjoy the run out Alberni Inlet to Barkley Sound in that little boat. They are responsive and agile little buggers and surprisingly seaworthy for their size. We love ours to death.
Cheers and hope to cross wakes with you soon.

Mangobob,

Great location for cruising access. You probably already know of the Port Alberni YachT Club's outpost in Robbers Passage. Free water, inexpensive showers, and handy moorage if you are not planning to anchor out. Nice people, also.

Thanks to all of you for your kind welcome and advice. Port Alberni is a small town, and I'm astonished that there are C-Dory drivers who obviously know it well. I am new to this area, having lived all of my life in Texas. I love the courtesy that Canadians display, and I love the beautiful surroundings here. The weather is a welcome change from the summer heat in the Austin area. I look forward to crossing paths--and wakes--with other C-Dory owners as time goes on. Again, thank you. Bruce

Thank you Pat Anderson. I just changed my profile and added my Austin, TX, zip code because the template won't accept 6-digit Canadian postal codes. Good advice, problem solved.
