New Honda BF50 outboard ?

I am going to trade in...or sell my 2003 Yamaha 40 outboards and repower my 22 cruiser with one of the new Honda 59 ho motors......lighter than the Yamaha 40 motors and more power....

Would I be able to buy them at the Boat Show ? at a discount ? and is it possible for me to install them... take the Yamaha motors off and mount the Honda motors using a engine hoist ? Anyone do this ?

Honda also has a 60 hp motor that is about the same weight as my Yamaha 40 motors.... but I think that is a bit overkill, I thought the 40's were fast enough...and the 50's should make a huge difference..

Not so much an engineering response as a area of operation thought. If you are considering much operation in Canadian water, there is a concern with getting service on Honda, (especially any warranty service) north of the border. Just a thought.

I have thought about repowering at some point, going from 40 to 50 and carbed to EFI, butnot for a while and not likely to go to Honda unless the service agreement in Canada changes.

For what it's worth; I prefer to avoid any "NEW" products until the manufacturers have had a couple to a few years to iron out engineering bumps. I hate spending money to became a guinea pig for new products and then possibly a statistic when the product is scrapped in favor of something that works properly. Sorry, just my opinion, hope I haven't ruffled any feathers. Good luck with your repower project. I personally would consider the Merc product here in the North West because they seem to have excellent representation throughout the coast, and they've been doing outboards for as long as I can remember. Some of our own senior techs cut their teeth on Merc outboards way back in the 50's and 60's.
