This site appears to be based on the same software our Mighty Guru uses for the Brat Map.

Kind'a makes me glad I'm in So Cal not Alaska.

Methinks El & Bill will like this one.

Yep, Don -- it's a good site and easy to use, if you're used to the C-Brat location map. But, methinks the original USGS link is a better site since it has more information when you want it. Thanks for pointing out this site to the members.

It's important for all of us to be aware of any geologic hazards that might affect us and our boating. And, once again, I'll take the time to point out that New orleans is just as far below sea level now as it was before katrina hit -- in fact, with all the water pumping, it might even be a bit lower. The levees will not sustain a 'hit' by a major hurricane this year any better than last year, so it remains a geologic/meteorologic disaster once again waiting to happen.

NOAA is again predicting more than the usual number of Atlantic hurricanes and larger in magnitude than normal. Yes, higher than normal has been above 'normal' for some years, and so have insurance claims and loss of life been above 'normal.' The risk to humans and their boats is high -- those of us with trailer boats should be able to avoid the problem with the usual advance notice if we take to heed the warning.
