New 28 foot C Dory

William and Beth - I don't know for sure about the reason for the head location on the new CD 28, but in general, fishermen don't like having main cabin space dedicated to a head compartment. I wonder if it's design was directed more toward 'six pack' charter operators than the normal cruising.

With 6' 2" headroom in the head, though, that must be quite a bit larger than the normal C-Dory offerings.

I have a TomCat 255 and am very pleased with it's head and cabin arrangement. Have you been able to get aboard a TomCat?

From the looks of the CD 28 drawing, there's quite a bit of "dead" space taken up on that transom out of the cockpit. I wonder why such a thick transom covering? That places the outboards way out back.

I guess you know special towing permits are required for each road trip on a boat that is over 8 foot 6 inches.

Good luck, John

Hey "TUs".... William..it was great to meet yall in Seattle and I enjoyed our time cutting up together.

I agree on the seating arrangements. Who knows what is really going on...?

Don't think the size of the cockpit is large enough for a 6 pac of fisherman... :thdown
Do think folks that do not use these boats as we do are drawing them.:thdown
Don't like having all the passengers on the starboard side, right behind the pilot station/helm... Now how easy is that conversation going to be when under way?? Not. :thdown
Also, while on the TC255/CD25 "modifications"..... I do not like shifting the refrigerator from under the helm seat, over to the much used space on the port side... :thdown This port side space was great to use for stowing folding deck/stadium chairs, and other larger items... without worrying about ripping your plumbing and other possible electrical items out that are under the sink. Again...design without a user participating... :thdown

OR....maybe they are just throwing something out, letting all us owners/users shoot holes in it/provide USER feedback :thup :thup .....then....they will really design the interior layout. That would be a novel idea!!! :idea :idea :thup :thup

Just take the 2006 TC255/CD25....expand it a bit, with the galley area behind the pilot, the "phone booth" that most women (and us aging men) really liked due to not having to climb up and down stairs, or, waking up whoever is sleeping late/early in the mornings/late night... :thup

I know from past experience, when at anchor on a CD25, a couple of us sitting out counting the stars and enjoying life....while someone else had crashed a bit early in the V-Berth..... and to have been wakened by someone getting a bit of relief while enjoying the stars....and not even being married to them...would have for sure been a less than perfect arrangement. :thdown :thdown

Who knows... time will tell.

Just my opinion..from a USERS/OWNERS point of view. :thup :smiled

I would have to think that this boat is aimed at the charter market. Maybe not the 6pac as in 6 people. Many charter folks will take as few as you wish. I noticed in ucluelit that most of the charter guys had only two customers each. they were running old sea ray 24 fters with new outboards. This 28 fter looks to me as a charter boat that can be delivered any where with out over size permits to a charter company where it will spend the rest of its life.

I think it looks like a pretty neat layout. Yes, a bit different but possibly quite functional. The thing I notice about the drivers area is that there are two seats there, so there is a place for the first mate, on top of which the seat on the far side isn't that far back, for goodness sakes how far can you be on a 28 foot boat. I like the additional size on the dinette, that would be a real plus. Towing it wold be another story, but I am darn interested in seeing one. Looks good to my eye's. And the transom area will probably be storage I bet, I know someone asked about that, and if you've seen a CC you'll know what I'm talking about. Definitly a plus, especially with all the suff some people like to haul along.
