Need advice for installing refrigerator in 22

I have a little 65 quart Engel cooler,pics in my album not quite 500 dollars as I also bought a nice an aluminum tray to keep stuff up top not wet.It holds ice better than my igloos. But for fishing I still use a 120 quart Igloo as I am not trying to hold ice but for a day or two. Better eat some wheaties I looked at an 80 quart refridge/freezer model kind of heavy with out anything in it. I thought it was about $1500. Have fun :lol:

I have been using the Norcold (basically same as the Engle and other chest type refer/freezers since the mid 70's. The first one rusted out--I used it in the cockpit of a semi open boat we "camped in " at Catalina--and the salt water got it. Charlie has the second one in "Thataway"--Both of these would freeze fish/ice cream etc. We used it as a back up in the Cal 46--which had eutectic freezer plates, and would bring the chest type "home" in the RV or truck full of fish.

I am aware of a few boats using propane refers--but there are a lot of safety issues on a boat like a C Dory (both propane in the bilge, sniffers, and proper venting of the exhaust gas, which makes this both dangerous and almost impossible to safely do). I would strongly recommend against it.

but you made my point for me. I have a different need then you. If you only need to keep fish for a day, great. That's not my need. have a nice day.
 
One thought about chest vs upright designs. When the door of an upright is opened the cold air inside tumbles out creating a slight negative pressure that draws in warm air at the top.

On a chest type the cold air stays in place more readily.

I packaged and froze the 30 lb. Salmon I caught this summer. We have a Waeco 50 qt./liter ? It all went in at once and was frozen hard in 48 hours.

Brent, Was the cooler on before you put the fish in or did you turn in on just before?

It was on, and had been for two months. We had it full of frozen beef and chicken from home and it was getting empty when I caught that Salmon. When we cruise, we use the Waeco as a freezer, and it runs 24/7.
