Need 1000 Islands (St Lawrence Seaway) Recommendations

Following an excellent two week excursion up the Trent-Severn Waterway in July we have decided to take a week and go back up to the 1,000 Islands in the St Lawrence Seaway. It is only about four hours from home trailering the Tomcat.

Would love to hear any recommendations on where would be good to launch/store/haul the trailer and good anchorages in the islands. We still have our Canadian "Mooring Pass" so can easily stay at any of the Canadian park sites.

Will probably launch in the Clayton or Alex Bay area but would appreciate any suggestions and advice. Thanks in advance.

Hi Peter, glad you enjoyed the Trent. Hope to see some pictures.

The only cruising I've done on the St.Lawrence is from Gananoque east. The poker run I entered my Stingray in last year was a 40 mile run - about 20 miles east from Gananoque and back. It is incredible cruising and from talking with other boaters I think there are many anchorages. Not sure but I think there is a Ports guide for the St. Lawrence.

Gananoque is a beautiful area, but not as a starting point - their parking is limited. We were charged $12. per day to park truck/trailer in addition to our slip rental.

Good to see you getting your money's worth out of your park pass!!

Regards, Rob

Hi Peter, just checked and yes the "Ports" guide for Lake Ontario includes The 1000 Islands and the Bay Of Quinte. They are excellent for finding good anchorages and launch sites. If you don't think you can get 1 ordered and delivered by your trip date - I'm sure 1 of the marina's in the area will stock them.

Enjoy your trip,
Rob
