Navionics (9.99) vs Navionics $35.00

Just curious. I have downloaded the Android app to my Ipad. I notice that the display pages are about 1/2" from all the sides. Anyone have the $35.00 app which is for the Ipad? does it fill the screen. I know that the Ipad version is also HD but is it a full screen. If it is I think I would download that one for the Ipad.

David - don't you mean the iPhone app, not Android? I doubt an Android app would run on an iPad, since IOS and Android are completely different operating systems!

However, assuming you meant the iPhone version, mine runs on the iPad just great, it runs in "2x" mode, which does leave a little black around the edges, but is hardly an issue. Because the Navionics charts are vector charts, they can render well at virtually any scale. You can reduce it to "1x" mode, which is the same size as an iPhone screen, but that really kind of defeats the purpose of running it on the iPad!

But you really want to get the U.S. & Canada app, which is either $14.99 for the iPhone version, or $49.99 for the native iPad version. The extra coverage for about 50% more is really great, even if you just plan on cruising in BC and never think about the Great Loop, the Trent-Severn or Georgian Bay (as you know, I am obsessed with the Great Loop). It just blows me away that I can get all this chart coverage on my iPad so inexpensively!

Yeah, what Pat said. There is a resolution difference between the iPhone version and the iPad version on the iPad. There is also a few minor differences in how each version interacts... i.e. if you pull up marina info on the iPhone version, you can just press on the phone number and it will dial the marina (obviously not on the iPad).

Gotta agree that if you are evening thinking about going into Canada, it is worth the very small extra money to get the whole she-bang instead of just the US charts.

The Navionics apps are so inexpensive, we have 'em on my Droid (Android version), Joan's iPhone (iPhone version) and the iPad (both the iPhone and iPad versions)... for less than $100. In other words, for less than 1/2 the cost of one measly chart area for the Raymarine C or E series CF chart chips... and you get Canada!

Best wishes,
Jim
