nautical charts for Gulf Islands and Nanaimo area

Anne,

You should be able to buy them at most any large boating store, West marine, Armchair Sailor, etc. I am looking at a nice Canadian chart of the Gulf Islands in a small enough scale to see all of the islands on one sheet. The chart is either #86 or #98, the way they have the numbers makes it unclear. You should also find your chartplotter chart chip goes all the way up there and quite a ways beyond. There is a large chartbook #3313 published by Canada that covers all the Gulf Islands. See you at Nanaimo.

Thanks, Barry,

I went to West Marine yesterday in Everett and was told that they don't have charts of Canadian waters. Also I recall our Nav class teacher mentioning Canadian charts but don't recall the details...

I knew they must exist, and figured you would possibly be the one who would reply since I know you use more than simply a guide book. I will call Armchair Sailor today!

Thanks again,
Anne

Hi Anne, if you don't come across any you can get charts at the West Marine in Sidney if you plan on clearing in there. The chart books are handy and good reference. You'll need a Gulf Islands chart to get all the way to Nanaimo, and if going further the Georgia Strait chart. The Canadian Hydrographics does produce great charts. See you next week in Nanaimo, George :smiled

Metzger Maps on 1st Ave near the Pike Place Market has good Canadian charts. I browse through their charts all the time since I only work a half block away. :thup

If anyone atending the B'Ham CBGT needs a Canadian chart, please check with LFS located just a short distance from where we'll be at P Dock.

Canadian chart #3463 appears to include Nanaimo. LFS has nine of these charts in stock.

I left my guide books and charts with Harvey and Paul in Sequim, with the caviat they be loaned out to C Brats for their use. I don't remember if I had all of the Canadian Charts or not, but many. They may be a few years old, but the rocks have not moved! Light lists and coast pilots will give the most recent updates. Also the Douglas Hemingway cruising guides are excellent for these areas.
