Namu, B.C.

Greetings,
Does anyone know if Namu is operational at this time?
We are planning a trip to the Hakai rec. area and have been unable to get through to Namu by phone. All we get is a busy signal. We are hoping to refuel and do laundry on the return trip to Port Hardy. Namu is the most conveniently located harbor for our needs. We're hoping to avoid a return trip to Shearwater from the Goose group on our way south.
Thanks,

Karl

Can't answer your question, Karl, but that whole area is just the neatest cruising grounds! And Shearwater is just like an oasis in the wilderness - we stopped there for fuel, water, showers, laundry, a good burger and cold beer! Have a great time, I remember it most fondly and would love to get back there!

Absolutely Pat,
the whole area leaves quite an impression. We have been looking forward to returning since we left last July. The girls can't wait to see all the sea creatures in the Kildidt narrows again. That was probably their favorite spot. Amy really liked Ocean falls and the Serpent group. And I'm hoping for the right weather to overnight at the Goose group. And of course the fishing!

Larry,
Thanks for the info on Dawson's landing.

Karl,

I am afraid I have absolutely nothing to contribute related to your query. Just wanted to post to say hello.

We are heading up towards the Canadian Gulf Islands and the Montague CBGT next week - about as big an adventure as we have taken on the boat.

I got out the Waggoner's Guide to look up the area you were asking about.... you guys are amazing. Hope you Amy, Kate and Kennedy have an enjoyable cruise up in that area and - like last year - you get a chance to post about it and put some pictures out on the C-Brats site. Love to read about C-Daisy's adventures!

I regret we have not had the pleasure of seeing you guys at a Gathering this year (we missed Friday Harbor so perhaps missed you there). Hope we catch you at some point.

Take care of yourselves and travel safely,
Dan & Tanya

Hi Dan And Tanya,

It really is spectacular up there. I hope you get a chance to enjoy it someday. All the shared knowledge and experience on this site and the cruising guides are what allow us to go there.

Hopefully we can catch up at the Sequim gathering. We would love to hear about your cruise in the Gulf islands. Hope you all have great weather for the gathering. Sorry we'll miss it.

Safe passages,

Karl

Hi Mark,

We are trailering up to Port Hardy and then boating N from there. It would take us a whole summer to make the run from Tacoma because there is so much to look at on the way.

Happy Boating,

karl

And the problem with taking a whole summer is??? Well, I know, damn work gets in the way. Counting down for us anyway, Karl, longer for you no doubt! Seriously, you are so right, this is not a place to hurry through (like we had to do in 2006). It deserves a summer or more...

We got fuel at Dawson's Landing four years ago on our way back from Ketchikan. Whole complex is built on log rafts much like Sullivans Bay, but much much more rustic. While we were there we had to move the boats down the raft to allow a fire fighting helicopter to land about 25 ft from us and pump av gas from drums to re-fuel.
